Or when. Nobody's bitten on the $1000 DH and it's been up since summer. Plus rare doesn't equal valuable. Despite the rarity of the hat, both of mine were very affordable, with one being under $100.

Wish that link you posted had pics of the hat's innards.

That's such a true statement, just as quantity doesn't translate to quality either. Rare is overused and most of the time isn't a statement of fact. When I see the word "rare" in an auction, I don't hurry to look.

To me, "one of one" is rare, "two of two" not so much.

Well, that's not what I expected, for sure. Do you know of any other connetions between Maclachlan and the Danbury Hat Co?

The Danbury Hat Company closed it's doors in 1987 as an operation of Stetson, at that time housed in St. Joseph, MO. Stetson purchased them in 1983.

The story in the guy's description is the story of the Demon Hanover hat. I am starting to think that, perhaps, this is a further evolution of the DH. Perhaps Danbury purchased the Hoyt Hat Company at some time? That fellow on eBay that's asking a grand for his DH? His has markings indicating Hoyt Hat Co., but in East Dorset, VT.

But if they bought Hoyt, then why didn't they still call it a Demon Hanover?

Either way, great hat, Max. Definitely a rare gem, and in good condition, too.
