Yes, I was referring to the quality. Unfortunately I don't know the model, although the hat shop is just up the street from where I work, so I can ask. It does seem quite similar to the Temple in all respects but the band width ( wait - am I going off topic with radio speak? )... I checked the Paris Hatters web site, but no luck. fftopic: please don't refer to the Paris website as any indication of the goings on there. The site stinks, but the shop is great ( check further down in HATS for posts on it ).

Thanks Kiltie. If you can find out the model without inconvenience that would be great. What is the crown height and brim size?

Nice! I wonder how many of us sometimes wear a hat around the house (or the office). I do (1) when my feet are cold, (2) when I have a headache, (3) when the hat has been washed and is still slightly damp. (This shapes it to the exact oval of my head.)

So true! And it doesn't help that I didn't like City on the Edge of Forever very much, and roll my eyes and sigh through much of the death scene much to the horror of my fellow Trekkies.

Hi Folks,

Today, in New Bern, we're experiencing a mild, wintertime coastal low. Were it stronger, we'de call it a nor'easter. When I left the house, just after daylight, the temperature was 34 degrees and there was a steady, drenching rain. I am determined not to "baby" my new Akubra Snowy River, so I plopped it onto my head and walked straight out into the storm. Within a minute, it was wet. Not quite wet enough for water to run off of the front of the brim, but very wet nonetheless. Right now it is hanging on my office doorknob, drip-drying. So far, it appears to have suffered no ill effects. It kept my head warm and dry and it has maintained its shape.

I have an old Quaker Marine that has lived through such treatment, but I don't think I would have done this to any of my Stetsons.

Since MK asked in the 'What are you wearing today' thread, here's my gray '50s Dobbs Fifteen. I picked it up in Guerneville, CA when I was living there at the town's only vintage / secondhand clothing shop.

This is the most accurate picture with regard to color. The ribbon has just a hint of blue.

Pretty sure this is mid / late '50s due to the back bow, narrow brim (not quite stingy, though) 2 1/4", and taper. The taper isn't noticeable unless you're looking at it from the side, and then only in the back. I reshaped it when I got it, I like a tight front pinch with big dents - this makes the crown(5" open on this one) of most of my hats straighten up if they've got some taper to them.

It's got a Guild edge and Headspring sweatband with a strip of white foam tape behind the corrugations in the sweat at the back. The tape is in decent shape and it's sewn in...I'd assume the foam is definitely not a '40s item.

The felt is soft, not at all stiff, and a nice medium weight.

My tastes have changed in the past few years and I like wider brims, taller crowns and no taper, even reverse taper, but I'm keeping this for now. The hand block looks fine and it goes with a lot of my wardrobe, and the ribbon is WIDE at just over 2", which seems unusual for a '50s hat...I'm under the impression that ribbons this wide were more common in the late '20s and '30s.

Evidently it's from Washington originally. I haven't given it a Washington state style rain test, but it's likely seen one. Doesn't appear to have been worn much, or it was well taken care of. Can't find anything on the store, but there is a Baker Brothers suit label. Not sure if they're related.
