Thanks for the compliment. Like finding vintage fedoras, these pieces are still out there, but the really good ones are going to be hard to find.
The ones you see now-a-days are cheaply slapped together often with metal frames and modern style. I haven't seen many that were both attractive and functional. The biggest problem as I alluded to is the spacing of the pegs. They are fine for ball caps, but way too closely spaced to accommodate wide brims.
This tree was clearly built when men wore Fedoras. The very large pegs are perfectly spaced and perfect for hanging and protecting hats.
I plan to completely restore it. Some of the parts are broken, it has problems with the finish and veneer in places, the original mirror is gone and the decorative tile looks out of place. Most of the condition issues can be fixed with a little glue and some screws. I found a supplier in England for some beautiful Art Nouveau decorative tiles and I plan to install a custom beveled glass mirror which will update and restore it's original beauty.
I got it for $75. The cost of the mirror and tile combined will add another $150, but I think it's worth it.
