Very nice, and wondering if the frayed cloth size tag can be assigned a certain period of years.

The manufacturing tag behind the sweatband is likely the best clue - c.1950 = or - a year or two.

P. & C. Habig Wien - Berlin "Special Qualität" with "Auto Cape". The hat was made for the P. & C. Habig Berlin store at Friedrichstrasse 82 which didn't survive WWII. I think it might be from the 1935 because "35" is last number on the paper label number sequence.

The Austrian Patent (133275) stamped on the sweatband of the above P. & C. Habig Wien - Berlin Melone with the felt insert that P. & C. Habig Wien called "Auto Cape". The patent claim is to make a stiff felt hat that is resistant to denting and the felt insert being a part of the invention.

This is the Austrian Patent(133275) from 1932 and an addendum from 1936.

The inventor Adolf Sindermann has a good number of hat related patents. His company was a major supplier of felt stumpen, capelines, finished hats and probably a supplier to P. & C. Habig Wien - Berlin.

Thanks guys! I am working this into more of a curl to the brim. The stitching is a nice detail. I was going for the classic Lord's Hat style, a Homburg dressed down with a pinch and no obvious brim binding.

I really want to do a Pacific Northwest hat shop tour.

I'd love to get in on that myself...

Thanks Tukwila. I was very surprised when I turned this one over off the rack in my favorite thrift today and saw it was another Hopoka straw. I like the one I have and this one may ultimately be in a bit better condtion. I found the Botany 500 3 piece today too, at a different thrift. I think it is a mid-60s vintage.

I saw a buntal straw today, similar to one I saw posted here recently. I was thinking it was posted by you? Although this one has an unmarked sweat; no "u-roll-it" or Bailey mark or anything other than a size sticker hanging from the sweat. I would have paid the $10 for it, but the misses didn't like how it looked on me...like that stopped me before, hahaha!

Nice hat for that money. I think it might have been Bob Hufford that had the buntal western. I saw a nice vintage Stetson straw a week or so ago, but it was a size big for me and I think $25. Bit too much for my wallet.

I knew I saw it posted here recently, but I couldn't remember who exactly. It fits real well for a 7-1/2, which can be a little large for me sometimes. Maybe a return trip is in order? The owner there is funny. He'll put $30 on a moth-bitten rag of a Stetson, $45 on a mediocre worn out Resistol, but $25 on a nice Dobbs 20 or Knox 15 (they are just WAY too small, like 6-7/8).
