Can you ever?
Should I try?
Thanks for the review Zombie. I appreciate your input.About $32. But seriously, the appearance and "finish" between the two is pretty much the same--same shape, same dimensions, visible tacks holding the ribbon to the crown. The sweatband on the Heritage Quality is a little softer and a little wider (about 1/8") than on the Imperial Quality, but unless someone is a real hat aficionado they probably wouldn't notice. Their Heritage Quality felt, while not thicker than the Imperial Quality, does feel more substantial/denser; not a quality that can be attributed to the amount of stiffener used (which, as anyone familiar with Akubra hats knows, can vary wildly from hat to hat). Otherwise, both felts feel pretty much the same to me. All things being equal, I'd guess a Heritage Quality hat would outlast an Imperial Quality hat; whether or not that's worth the extra $32 is up to the buyer/wearer.
That being said, I received my Heritage Quality hat by accident. I ordered an Imperial Quality hat, and they sent me a Heritage (I notified them of the error, and they told me to keep it with no additional charges). I mention this only because I was perfectly happy with my Imperial Quality hats and would probably have never ordered a Heritage Quality hat myself. Why spend the extra cash? But now that I've had the opportunity to compare them, I might consider it.
Happy Birthday Matt. What a great piece of history. Congrats. To celebrate my birthday, I'm wearing my present that arrived yesterday.
Knox Superfine from the 1940s.
The hat belonged to Brigadier General Jerome J. Waters, Jr. Waters served in World War I as a Captain in the 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Division. During that service, he was awarded three Silver Stars for "gallantry in action" on July 21, 1918 near Villemontoire, France.
In World War II, Waters commanded an artillery training center in China to train nationalist Chinese (known as the Y Force) for defense against the Japanese.
After the war, Brig. Gen. Waters was warden at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in the early 1950s. There, he instituted significant reforms and was also taken hostage at knife point by inmates on one occasion.
He died in 1972. I was born in 1972. I can't help but feel that this has worked out nicely.
I also attach a few items related to Brig. Gen. Waters. In the group photo, he is front left.
Happy Tuesday.

Nah! Imagine if a head the size of yours exploded.
Beautiful Gannon Eric. The Stormy Kromers are terrific, warm caps. I highly recommend them.Last night snowblowing in a Stormy Kromer. Wind gusts to upper 40 's mph.

You always need a black hat for formal occasions, even in the summer. This one will do nicely.Black hat season will be closing soon so I boxed 'em all up except my favorite. Of course, they are all within easy reach if needed.

If it's cool enough to wear felt after sundown, don't matter the color.Nice, but don't box 'em all up. We need bad guys in the summer, too.
I need a black hat.

I think it would be hard to put that one away. The beaded band is exceptional, nice width and gray colors go well on black.Black hat season will be closing soon so I boxed 'em all up except my favorite. Of course, they are all within easy reach if needed.
