To celebrate my birthday, I'm wearing my present that arrived yesterday.

Knox Superfine from the 1940s.

The hat belonged to Brigadier General Jerome J. Waters, Jr. Waters served in World War I as a Captain in 15th Field Artillery Regimane, 2nd Division. During that service, he was awarded three Silver Stars for "gallantry in action" on July 21, 1918 near Villemontoire, France.

In World War II, Waters commanded an artillery training center in China to train nationalist Chinese (known as the Y Force) for defense against the Japanese.

After the war, Brig. Gen. Waters was warden at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in the early 1950s. There, he instituted significant reforms and was also taken hostage at knife point by inmates on one occasion.

He died in 1972. I was born in 1972. I can't help but feel that this has worked out nicely.

I also attach a few items related to Brig. Gen. Waters. In the group photo, he is front left.

Happy Tuesday.

Now you have to find which one.

Thanks Eric. Your headwear choices today are stellar, as usual. I remember spending many hours shoveling snow under a Stormy in Mn.

A very happy birthday to you my friend! This hat, besides being out-fricken-standing, is a wonderful historical piece. Such a great tribute to have this warrior's hat, and to be able to tell his story. Good on you!
