While heavy sleet was falling (and still is falling) I tried on several hats to go with the greatcoat, which proved two things to me. First: it's hard to match a colour precisely. Second: I need more grey hats! None of my hats matched the coat exactly but a few of them came close. The coat leans towards the blue end of the spectrum (looks a bit green on my screen). Borsalino Selenio I wore today was a nice match (a bit darker).
As for the coat: here's a full view of it. No labels whatsoever inside it, but I remember the saleswoman saying it was eastern European (either Russian or Polish production). It was a quick picture and I need to practice my military posture:)

Another wintry morning, but no white stuff, evil or nice.

I think it seems like a good day to lounge around the shack. Hope you are finding you are finding your Sunday interesting,
Michael
That Borsalino is perfect! I have also been admiring the trench coat. Great color blue on my screen. The scarf is made by Edward Armah wool silk blend I believe.

I think I detect a psychological difference between us. I generally find it easier or more appealing to have something in contrast, either color or tonally, than something that matches. Could just be my bad eyes. Ha ha.

Interesting background. Have to use that Middle English when you can or you will lose it.

Great look D. Super scarf.

Thanks Serge. Yes, I like that red scarf. I think it's silk, but don't remember.

Thanks steur. This LEO is such a nice piece of felt.

The match looks good. And so does the coat. Does it have a half belt? Nice fit too.

Thanks all,
Michael
Michael, thanks. It does have a half belt.

Not sure if evil or not. We seem to have morally neutral snow here in Funkytown.

Wish we had some of Matt's sunshine, though.

That brim looks cool with a little drift on it. Very nice Esther.

That is a beautiful shade of gray. Love everything about this hat. Esther does good hat!

Good to see you Charlie! Nothing nicer than Whiskey on a frozen, snowy day, well on your head anyway.

Love the O'Farrell, looking good this morning Bob.

Spiffy stingy. And that Tibetan band, so cool!

Love the look of a fine Homburg with an overcoat. Nice suit as well.

Beautiful Borsalino and a perfect pairing with that Great Coat. I've been searching on the web to find a match, but no hits. I think it may have some age, I'll widen my research. The red makes the whole look "pop". You are an inspiration. Grey hat will be on the way, more of a light spring one though.
Mike, thank you! Much appreciated.

I have been researching this grand Great Coat over coffee this morning. The closest I could come to this coat was a German Border Guard top coat from the 1960s. What is throwing me is the red inserts on the lapels. All of the red ones I found do not have the scalloped shape to them. The buttons do not appear to have any clues on them either. Everybody had similar great coats in this cut and style from pre WWII through the 1960s. I tried, hoping to find an image or description on military websites, to no avail. It pains me to admit defeat in any research undertaken. Looks fantastic though, you can make up a story that befits this wonderful coat, we will believe it.

I'll think of something:). I've been looking myself but no luck either.

Excellent, Mayser, thank you for sharing - this solves the mystery! There is indeed something funny going on in this ad and your friend was able to see through it whereas neither I nor the individual who translated the ad on your website caught it (and no, the translation on your website is not completely accurate).

It’s this: there is a period between two words in the ad that makes it look like the sentence ends. The two words are “unuebertroffen.Dauerhaftigkeit.” I don’t know why that period is there unless the German of the day required it because the “von” just before “unuebertroffen” is an abbreviation (“v. unuebertroffen.Dauerhaftigkeit”). I never heard of a rule like that so it could also have been a typo (the print also recommends it’s a typo since there’s no space after the period, but surely they would have caught a typo like that!). What the period meant was that when I read the ad the first sentence looked incomplete - there’s no verb in it - and the second sentence was utterly wonky because of reasons I explained elsewhere.

Sorry, this could go on, but the confusion on your website and in my translation were both due to reading that period as a full stop.

I recommend if possible you update your website with your friend’s translation because his is superior to what is on your website now (I just checked). And please thank your friend for the translation - he solved the mystery of the wonky grammar!

Do you reckon he can tell us why there’s a period in the middle of the sentence?o_O

Cheers!
I tend to doubt the word is misspelled probably just a variation from the time period / place. I think the translation on my website represents the message of the advert accurately but I will update with Herbert's when I find time. I will send you a PM when I receive more feedback.

Good afternoon. Busy past couple of days has me catching up. Great hat and cap parade of late!:)

Friday evening I was outside enjoying the lakeside in a vtg. Stetson Playboy. I was chuckling at the antics of our dogs in the snow.

Thanks Rodolfo. You've been showing some great hats in recent days. As always I should add.

Love the look of a fine Homburg with an overcoat. Nice suit as well.
Thanks Red. A homburg and coat are a great pairing. I think I've had this suit for a year or so, but can't really remember. It's quite a heavy wool and was made in Portugal.

That Borsalino is perfect! I have also been admiring the trench coat. Great color blue on my screen. The scarf is made by Edward Armah wool silk blend I believe.
Thanks D. Gotta love those fine woven wool and wool/silk scarves. So cool that it is from your father.

Thanks all,
Michael

All three are equally beautiful, just amazingly flawless. The bantam really got my heart pumping.
