Charlie - I"m no expert on this. I think the technique shown in the video Doug embedded is about right. But I used a rib and not one sold especially for doing shoes. One I got from my brother in law complete with a nice fat covering. Ha ha.

So while it is a method primarily recommended for shell cordovan, it works for box calf to some degree also.

I have a pair of shoes that needs this treatment. You really can learn something new every day!

Everyone is looking great as usual today.
A fall day here, only 89. That makes it a perfect day for felt. I bought this Stevens Pace-Setter from MiamiBruno on the bay a couple of weeks ago but this is the first time I've worn it. It was a little late when I took the pics so the great color including the purple accent on the ribbon is hard to see except in the last pic.

Ant, what do you think of that open road?
I like it
Strangely it's probably my favorite straw that I own
This was my second summer with it and I enjoyed it
Great fit and it is proportioned well
The quality is fine for what I payed for it
It showed up with a bit more flange scoop than I generally like on this style hat but I flattened it out and am happy with it
