Too many wonderful hats that I missed over the last 24 hours or so. Marvelous display...

I done got the crud. Felt so bad this morning that I stumbled out of the house with a nude noggin'. Upon finding that out, Rebecca texts: "Holy _ _ _ _, you must not feel well!" Ha.

Borrowing the wayback machine from @hatsRme and wearing the Royal Stetson DeLuxe homburg today (well... In December).

I would even say at sunset with a good red wine. We are after all in the Rhône Valley and we had a lot of good wine.

That's an understatement. The Rhone Valley is filled with wonderful wines of world renown.

I was thinking just like you when I saw that picture. Sunset with a glass of red wine.... heaven.

That fuzzy find is really cool. Is the head band sewed as part of the body of the hat? I like it. Great patterns linked up today.

Thanks Red, I like it. The band is attached in the usual way, tacked at the bottom only except for a couple of stitches around the bow treatment area. I think I'll have some fun wearing this one.

Another great find, that texture and those colours are interesting. Seems like you have the best thrift stores in the world where you live, I think I need to come visit

Thanks Celia. This is a wool hat I'm down with wearing. It's an unusual one for sure. These are the first hats I've found in the thrifts for quite awhile, I found a cheapie Italian made straw porkpie yesterday too, but the clothes thrifting has been excellent. Feel free to come and make the rounds with me.

My first attempt at a hat-from-scratch. A Blue Monkey creation with a big blue sawtooth:

The would-have-been brim binding on this gave me serious grief after one too many re-stitches so I just trimmed a quarter inch off the edge and left it raw. The next blank comes tomorrow and I'm not calling it done until its edge is bound.

Wow! Details, please! Type of felt? Color? Sweatband? Liner? What tools did you use. etc, etc, etc?

I'll take photos of my setup when I get home =) I made the block and the flange myself for less than forty bucks (although I previously owned most of the tools needed to attempt such a thing, so the sanders, jigs, band saws, etc. are excluded from my cost figures). I was able to cut and belt sand the flange pretty easily. As for the block, I'm not a good wood carver but I did take several sculpting classes back in art school so I used a combo of basic woodworking and polymer clay molding to make the open block.

Crown is 5.75" open with a slight taper. Brim is 2". Ribbon is a 2" vintage navy Petersham (ebay store: timelesstrims). Liner and sweatband courtesy of @bond . Mid gray felt source is http://www.hatblocks.co.uk (I believe their men's felt capelines are Czech).

The other type of repetition is good. "Esther wearing the same hat everyday" is good repetition.

Stetson The Motor... one of those hats you buy for the typeface. A few have put-puttered onto the Lounge and there is a little thread dedicated to this moment in Stetson and automotive history here. I repaired tears in the felt forward and aft - tolerable job but keeps me from wearing this more often. It was nice to steam it up and get it out in the daylight today.

Very nice, Alan. Like Roger said, it looks to be very lightweight felt. I assume Zephyr weight has something to do with that. It's certainly very stylish as well.

Yes, Zephyr was a lightweight descriptor. This hat weighs 3.2 ounces.

The paper label is missing this increase the difficulty of dating this Lobbia Borsalino
