What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Wearing my 1940s Stetson western (embroidered liner, bound edge, etc.) again, but decided to re-crease it over the weekend. I was never happy with the center dent (I think came to me that way?). The hat finally told me it wanted to be a cattleman. I do what I'm told.

Thanks! Although I do like German hats, I always thought the feathers could be a bit tacky if they're too big. This one's an exception though, to my own surprise I really like it The felt quality's an interesting one actually. It's wool, but nothing like the cheap wool felts you find everywhere nowadays. It's really soft without being floppy and quite smooth to the touch, almost like a fur felt but not quite. I've only ever encountered this quality wool felt in older German/Austrian hats, I doubt they still make any like it.

Today I wore another German hat from my friend's inheritance: a bright red Mayser. Nowhere near as awesome as @EstherWeis ' huge red fedora, but I'm quite chuffed with it anyway. I am considering changing the ribbon to a contrasting one though - what do you guys think?

Alan, it sure does turn some heads, but thats not unusual. I never really notice.

I've never really owned hats that I did not make myself, nor do I plan to do so in the future. I have always had a soft spot for these though.

Thanks for sharing the interior shots. It is from the 1960s. Had no idea that you wear a tiny hat. The world is your oyster in the vintage market, should your plans change. ;^)

Ha! Something tells me that this one came out of the factory already "unsucked", Alan.

There is no retail outlet name embossed on the sweatband. However, it seems to be produced for the U.S. consumer. The size is noted 7 1/4, rather than 58.

It fits my noggin' just right, so that's definitely U.S. rather than U.K..

Is there a way to determine the market from the factory label?

Thanks Matt! Just wearing it a little snug for the time being until I have time to test the procedure on a hat that I don't treasure quite as much. Very similar to Darth Vader testing the carbon freezing process on Han Solo before attempting the process on Luke.

I do have all the parts located and ready to go! I'll let you know how it works.
