Ok thanks Harv!Rick, I just ordersd an Akubra RM Williams from Australian Gear in the dark brown. Very similar to a CD, but it is precreased. No big deal. They had been out of stock for a long time, but I just got word earlier in the week that new orders will be shipping out sometime this month.
Yup. Best in a long time. So far...Gone, for the most part, Bob. What a winter... sort of.
Yes that's correct. MB may be available in other models from Akubra but other than the CD & Fed IV I don't keep up with availability. Thanks! I don't think they offer it in medium brown any more, correct?

No hat pics today but I've been wearing my Royal Stetson Whippet . I only own one, so you've all seen it. Just wanted to take the time to thank all of you for the kind comments and likes on my hats. I look forward to this thread every day and am so amazed and in awe of the incredible display of hats here. I was first introduced to great hats by my maternal grandfather who loved his hats and took great pride in them. Both, wearing and caring for them. It sometimes saddens me that they are in the possession of people that neither wear them or appreciate them as so many here do. I fear they are now moth eaten, stored unforgotten in an uncles attic.
Having said that, DAMN you all for relighting this fire in fire in me.

Greg
is there any way you could inquire about your grandfathers hats ?
... maybe explaining your passion for hats in general and that you only want what is best for something the he enjoyed ?
I know family can be weird about stuff like that ... but if your grandfather cared for his hats I can't help but feel like they should currently be in the hands of someone who would do the same
Going through something similar myself just not hat related. Hang in there.Hey, bud. It's a battle that's been fought several times with with little yield on the opposing front. I feel the same as you do, the hats won't even fit me, i just want them cared for and preserved. I won't say the war is over, just haven't determined when to mount the next assault. (Are there enough cliche's in this post?)
Wow. That's a great looking hat, Steve. The finish looks fantastic. Glad you had a nice trip!Hückel Weilheim, probably late 1950s. This is a gift from Daniele that I received at his studio in Verona. Really fantastic felt + finish! Thanks!
