Joao, I'm really liking the your ole black Stetson (top pic)! I really like the straight flat brim!! Reminds me of the hat Alec Baldwin wore in The Shadow. I want one, now...

Alan, very nice photos of you and your dad.
HB3, nice Borso. I'm trying to place the setting. Lake Houston?
Alex, now that you're in the whiskey club I would imagine the covetousness is diminishing a bit. :)
Congrats on the new CRM.

Hello, GD. No that isn't lake Houston. It's actually a forested area near an event we attended. What you're seeing is the result of a week of rain.

Great pics Alan and great job TJ
Mystic the historic shape of the Dobbs scores many cool points!!!
Beautiful Stetson O.G.
Killer hat and photo HB3
Great color GD

Great pics everyone!

Alan, great pictures of you and your Dad! Where did your Dad receive his Silver Star? A good friend of mine's father received the Silver Star in WWII and my friend never knew it. He found it in a little box in his desk after he died.

Ordinary Guy, dh66, Joao, NewJack, Thanks guys. I appreciate the comments on my Panama.

Joao, I'm not a black hat fan, (although I make exceptions for some black Westerns). Your black Stagecoach with the white ribbon stands out to me. I like the crown on that one too.

NewJack, I like the bow tie, jacket combo with your Dobbs Golden Coach That looks really good on you....and if you want to do hat conversions for a hobby check out the guys in the 'Conversion Corral'. They're excellent sources for help and information.

Pierre Warden, I like the turned up brim on your Stylmaster. That's a good look for you.

NewJack - I like the Dobbs and the tie and jacket. Very nice.
Pierre - you can never go wrong with an Akubra. Good look with the brim snapped up.

I was watching Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn in Bringing Up Baby last night. Grant's fedora made me think of my 1930s inspired VS Black Cherry. Mine's nearly a dead-ringer for Grant's, though I must admit I don't look a thing like the actor.

Many thanks for the warm comments on my visit with my dad. Will share some additional photos in the Fedoras Afield thread later,

Great pics everyone!

Alan, great pictures of you and your Dad! Where did your Dad receive his Silver Star? A good friend of mine's father received the Silver Star in WWII and my friend never knew it. He found it in a little box in his desk after he died.

Thanks Mike. My father was drafted in 1943 and arrived in France some time after D-Day. He was a private. He never spoke of his military experience when we were younger. I also discovered his medals and citation in a drawer. My grandfather was visiting at the time and shared with me a collection of V-mail that he had kept. My dad suffered trench foot - a frostbite condition that was a plague amongst foot soldiers during the harsh winter of 1944-45. He was evacuated to England where he spent several months in a hospital before being moved back to the U.S. and hospital here.

My father-in-law was an officer in the Pacific TOF - the captain of a minesweeper. He speaks of his war experiences often. Soon to be 90 and 95 - we are fortunate to have them both and look forward to vacationing with them next month in New Hampshire.

Richard - thanks for your note. Donna's uncle was a seabee in the Pacific - also still with us. A very harrowing service, from what I've heard.

cheers,
Alan

Alan - +1 on the pics with dad. The heather Dobbs is fantastic. I have no heather hats but I really love the texture.

New Jack – Love the hat/tie combo. Well worn.

Bowlerman – That is one cool Falcon Park. Well done.

Orangegrad – I am a hugh Cary Grant fan. Have you seen Philadelphia Story with Jimmy Steward, Grant and Hepburn? Fabulous movie. Great hat, too.

TJones – Love that straw. Well done.

Casechopper – That beret on you is perfect. Where’s the palate, brush, and canvas?

1M1 – Those Falcon Parks are great. Looks great on you.

My OPS Stetson Sovereign Twenty on this casual Monday.

Great hats as usual! The only hats I have are from Art, so here's my dove lite with the messy brim which I like. My hats tend to turn into hobo beaters.

That is easy to make. Just iron the brim with a clotch between the felt and the iron. That was the way I flattened it.

Awesome Joao! Very cool.
Thanks :)

Thanks ;)

You may have read it wrong, that black hat with white ribbon is a Stetson, not a Stagecoach. It is the first Stetson I ever had and the one I wore for years everyday. It accumulated a lot of sweat and hair grease...

For today I returned to my wider brimmed old Stetson.
