An honest opinion needed, Yesterdays hat pinched at 4 1/2 crown height. I am 6'5 230 lbs with a lanky build. Do you guys think this crown height is ok or should I go lower if needed. I have ordered a hat from Tim at Cane creek with a 4 1/2 height with a 2 1/2 brim and I am a little worried that it will look too tall on my body. Any advice will be helpful, good and bad. Thanks
I think a crown height of 4 1/2 inches is perfect as far as I'm concerned. That's the height I have on my hats. Although I prefer a little wider brim of no less than 2 5/8 inches and no more than 2 7/8 inches on my fedoras, but that's me. I'm broad across the cheek bone area of my face and I'm just over 6 feet 2 inches at around 220. So those proportions work well for me. With your height and physycal proportions the 4 1/2 crown height will work really well....and from the picture you posted that crown height and brim width looks good on you.

Che – Very nice. Do you like the GP? Looks great on you.

Mike – Love the colors on the Garret Special

HB3 – Nice Borsalino. They really are outstanding.

David – I like those thinner ribbons. That Bantam is awesome. I think a thinner ribbon makes a hat look sleeker. Works well.

YTT – BEAUTIFUL.

OGrad – Golf anybody??

Hato – Beautiful Champ. The dimensions on that one look really good on you.

1mach1 – Very nice, Mallory. That’ll keep you dry.

For me, my Stratoliner this morning.

Superb hats over the last couple of days. Beyond superb, actually! As Norm Crosby might say, "Beautiful! Absolutely superfluous!!"

I dropped my Canon (camera) yesterday. Last time that happened I was in the Smithsonian with a Leica M3 in 1970. Of COURSE I remember that drop.

No pics today, but I'll be BACK...

Had to take the cattlemens' crease out of the Miller Brothers and re-bash it to my liking.

Great hats one and all.
We have Cleveland/Akron weather here today, but I don't have to hear about Lake Effect any more.

so I've been wearing cowboy boots more and wanted a little more of a western hat, I pulled out of storage my modern OR that was my ex-wife's grandpa's. my head hits the top of the crown and sits way above my ears, and didn't quite look right, so I decided to put a "western" curl to my Campdraft's brim. it's amazing how easy it was the put the new shape, but I'm not sure if i like the results. I've had a few traditonal westerns and could never get used to a 4" or 5" brim.

any suggestions, gents?

Thanks TJ, getting use to taller crowns and wider brims is new for me. Started out with the stingy look but now I have grown up and understand why the wider birm is so well liked here on the lounge. I really appreciate the comments.

Rob; I agree with Alan ... more brim and crown.
Alan; You always look great, but that jacket is outstanding along with the discrete bolo.
I'm thinking of a new Crossover from Northwest. 3 inch brim but have not figured out the crown height. Maybe 4 3/4"?

Thank you very much. The jacket is a thrift store Zegna that came from one of the animal rescue shops that my dad frequents on eastern Long Island. It is hit or miss, but they can have some great stuff. The bolo is a neat image of a mountain with human form that was made by Kenneth Begay for the White Hogan shop in Scottsdale, likely in the 1950s.

I was trying to avoid more brim... guess it's back to fedoras for me :)

when you say crossover do you mean crossing over from country to western? I think I'll try that brim shape on my campdraft.

You're welcome buddy...I honestly believe you would pull off a wider brim and taller crown very well.

Mike - those Blacksheep secials are gems.

Che - great looking Dobbs.

HB3 - very nice Borso.

David - great hat & backdrop. The brim width doesn't look too small.

Paddy - lovely looking Borso - you're not tempted to keep it?

Claudio - good looking straw.

Andy - nice cap. Weather is all over the place here.

Perry - that deserves to be known as a champ!

Harv - nice mallory.

Miami - looks great, and I always enjoy your tie collection.

Sam - that Carmack always makes me envious.

Richard - the new crease looks good.

Rob - it looks good, but I think a wider brim would suit the brim curl even better.

Alan - looking great.

Gear-guy - I think 4 1/2 is good, 5" would work well too.

Richard - I'd go 5".

Richard - You've got all the primary colors. You're all set.

Alan - +1 on the jacket and I keep saying it, but those Borsalinos are something.

casechopper - That's one of my favorites.
