Autumn Homecoming

Homecoming week is a special time for Ryan and his school mates. A week to celebrate school pride and spirit and to enjoy the camaraderie of good friends, capped off with a day of corsages, formal dress, a photo shoot, a fine meal, and dancing until midnight. This past Saturday I carried out photography duties and Lydia and I served as chaperones for the kids.

Dressed warmly for an early and cold Autumn morning on Saturday. 1950s Stetson Sovereign 'Twenty' Mode Edge. A recent find at a local antiques shop and in fantastic condition. Having not undergone the spa treatment as yet, it carries a few wrinkles in the ribbon from storage.

Sharing some fiddle talk over croissant and coffee with my friend John Waddle, at his violin shop. The felt and ribbon color are quite mercurial with different light.

Last minute tie and shirt shopping with Ryan.

Studying the lighting and color around our house before some 13 of Ryan's friends gathered at our home to begin the festivities.

Still cold in the afternoon with temperatures in the upper 30s, I felt very sorry for the girls(who outnumbered the boys by 9:5) in their beautiful dresses, determined to look their best despite the chill.

Up to their teenage shenanigans right before their parents' eyes.

Driving into the sunset and to supper with a carload of sixteen and seventeen-year-old girls(Ryan was absconded away in a separate minivan with six other young ladies), to the strains of Psy and his "Gangnam Style".

A mid-morning start to a slightly warmer and gloriously beautiful Sunday.

Bedford Hats/Percy FitzGerald-Boston "Special".

An intriguing felt and ribbon color combination which is difficult to characterize, the felt can best be described as bluish-green, with the ribbon leaning to turquoise on the color wheel. On the way to the theater to catch a matinée.

At Hamline University in the afternoon to attend the first concert of the season by The Musical Offering.

An impressive display of brilliant colors everywhere one looked.

It was tough to go indoors on such a fine Autumn day, but the music beckoned.

An uplifting afternoon of chamber music by Mozart, Schubert, and Beethoven, played by a few friends from the Minnesota Orchestra. It was a particularly poignant performance, tinged with sadness due to the Minnesota Orchestra management's condemnable and utterly reprehensible lockout of musicians earlier in the week.

I do not like the cold, Al (from Northern Illinois originally), but those pics make me nostalgic for the beautiful hues of fall foliage. As always, nice hats, too!

And for the record, I have serious doubts that Ryan had any problem with being absconded into a van chock full of young lovelies.

Thanks for the Knox 20 comments from earlier today, guys. Seems ages ago that I posted that.

What a great hat today today.

Bulldog - great idea to get the Journeyman made in beaver felt.

Rob - super place for your hat. I hope you all enjoyed the evening out.

Hatto - the Biskup takes the biscuit

John - if I ever get a Fed hat, it will be Moonstone for sure. Looks good.

Tom - great looking S100

Eric - I really like both your Strat and Stratesque VS from today

TomB - good looking Marathon you have there.

Alexander - the painted hat is just wild. I don't think I could come close to being able to wear it, you pull it off well.

Jared - just too cool!

CC - love the Camilla

Al - just fantastic photos and nice S20 and "Special" Your autumn colours look to be more vibrant than ours. Rather subdued in Southern New Hampshire so far.

AnA - it is only right that you are loving the FP.

Tom: Thanks. Your Pennys Marathon today looks great on you!

scooter: Ryan certainly wasn't complaining, it was Lydia who was bemoaning the deft machinations of the young ladies! lol I hear you regarding the upper Midwest cold weather, but as the saying goes, you just have to dress in layers! ;)

Alive'n'Amplified: Your FPH looks superb.

David: Thanks! We are in the midst of a drought here in Minnesota, and it seems that this has contributed to the particularly vibrant display of Fall colors.

It was cool out today, so I wore my herringbone tweed flatcap and my late 1940's Harris Tweed long coat that was my Grandfathers. I really like when the weather gets cooler so I can wear more of the clothes I like, such as this coat and some of my hats that are just too hot to wear in warm weather.

To be honest, that is the upside to living in cooler climes. More choices in clothing, and longer seasons during which one can wear them.

Seabass, I hear ya, brother. That's the cool thing, (no pun intended) about Arizona. You can always head up to the Mogollon Rim and cool off considerably. And btw, you ROCK that stingy. I can't pull them off, my wife even gives me grief, but it looks very good on you.
