Alan, I think those turquoise bands look fantastic on just about any western. There are certainly some impressive ones out there. I'll be looking forward to seeing yours!
The nutria is amazing-- did you post color pics somewhere?

Thanks Jeff,

I did post a color picture earlier this summer. A few posts above mine are RLK's photos. The color is a warm medium gray.

I hope to have the hat band later this week... will certainly post some pictures. I've wanted one for a while. A western hat I purchased recently which has not arrived yet appears to be without a ribbon, so I looked and found something which I hope will be interesting. In the process, I got sidetracked on a turquoise journey, which apparently can be much more expensive than my hat habit if I don't exercise some caution. :eeek:

cheers,
Alan

Thank you Bowlerman! Your bowler has a very cool liner with a neat graphic! I think the cotton linings are much cooler in the summer.

I posted pics of my Clearwater "Tucson" in the Western thread:

http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?24539-Western-anyone/page169

Not the greatest pic, but shows the liner and wide soft sweatband along with the markings. I wonder if he replicates the makers markings of period hat makers? The hat shown originally had a pencil roll brim and was basically a broad flat brim. I long ago removed the pencil roll and dropped the front and back of the brim to maximize sun shade, as we spend pretty long hours in the sun while shooting CAS. Crown has always been open Boss of the Plains style. I think he discontinued the "Tucson." I am considering returning the hat to Clearwater for a reblock back to it's original style. The beaded hatband is an Alaskan Native style that my wife makes.

That squatter looks great casechopper. To what dim. did you trim it down to and by what means? I have the DM squatter and just love it. Whenever I see photos like yours, I start thinking about trimming it down.

Hi Mando,
I didn't actually do the trim. I bought this hat from gtdean here on the forum who purchased it from someone else who did the trimming. I don't have the hat in front of me to measure but Mr. Dean's measurements when I purchased it were 2 1/2" sides and 2 5/8" front and back.

Thanks,
Sam

I've got to wake up pretty early in the morning to beat David to the punch! :) Nice Penman!! The stitching really stands out.

I'm wearing my navy Robley again. This time I've "ironed" out the details and the front of the brim now sit a lot flatter. Thursday casual: blue-grey un-tucked button up and jeans. I'm REALLY loving this hat!

When I see David's posts, I know it is time to put on the coffee.

You are carving out a great 1930's profile in your hats... well done!

Thanks! It is actually a private label brand for a local hat store here in Atlanta that was open from the 50s (I think) to the 70s. I was drawn to it, because of the color alone. But now that I'm getting a hang of different creases and improving my ironing skills it has developed in to one of my favorite hats! :)
