At the moment, I"'m going with my Resistol stingy cav-edge. This hat began as a 7 1/4, and I ruined the sweatband while leaving it over steam to tend to an emergent child situation. Then I reblocked it and the felt tore straight through on about an inch or two between the brim and crown. So this has been a restoration project for me. I sewed in a new sweat and stitched up the tear by hand, and have been trying to crease this in such a way to remove some of the taper without compromising the nice side profile. This is what I've settled on:

Here's an Alan inspired shot of the profile:

Looking good Eric. It's nice to see how Johnny's caps look in use.

Considering what that hat's been through it doesn't look bad at all Bowlerman. I would have probably written it off after the felt ripped but you've done a good job making it usable again.

+1 Jeff. The hat has had a hard life, but is working. BTW, nice pic of you playing jazz. Sweeet!

Case; Thanks for the comment. I am a hat/cap wearer. For me they do not work unless I can wear them. That said, I too like to see them in action. I get a much better idea of wearing uses. This cap, the girl gymnasts in the gym call my "Spanky" cap. They laugh at the cap when I wear it, as it looks to them like the caps they see in the hillarous "Our gang" movies that are "ancient!" All I can think is it was not too long ago that these girls were eating paste! :D:cool:With that in mind I can more easily discount their comments.

Hi Blackthorn

Oddly enough, I see those in Kansas all of the time. The local Mosque is just down the street. REALLY odd is the fact that there was a cross in front of their parking lot because some doofy 13 year old was driving the get-away car and lost it there (he Died). They eventually put the little shrine in the Lutheran Church across the street.

Very, very interesting, 1961. We live in changing times!

Thanks for the comments on the stingistol. I wore it around this morning, but am still missing the squarer hats with a little more brim.

Manfred: AWESOME. That's kind of a unique curl, even for a homburg, isn't it? It's great!

Randall, common or not (I enjoy the symbolism) that looks uncommonly stylish, especially with that feather! Did you call it macaroni?

My new to me Cavangah Homburg:

Had to apply a bit of steam to get the side creases to hold. Also, I think I've discovered that I'm slightly long oval. The stiffer crown leaves some room on the sides, and gives me a light headache...I suppose I'll stretch it a bit to see if that helps.

Hatto, John, Jeff, Alan, Brando, Manfred - thanks for the Stratoliner comments. I was very pleased to get this one with only one person (our old friend Hats Enough) bidding against me.

This hat has the OPA tag so is an early to mid 40's model. I'll post more pics when I get the chance.

Some great hats posted today, Hatto's OR, Mikes, SRD, John's Falcon Park, Tom's great VS, Jeff's Resistol, Eric's Cordover (I need one of those!), Manfred's Hommie (great vintage look photo too!!), Randall's Stetson, Jared's Cavanagh - just great!!
