Hey IC, I'm shooting a 1911; my carry piece. It was a range refresher class I helped put on for some new instructors. My Champ survived without a single powder smudge for a fired case being ejected onto it. :D I was thinking I ought to rethink my shooting hat though...

Thanks for the comps on that Champ everyone. I did not think it would need quite so much work but after all I have heard about the folks at Optimo, I listened to what they had to say. It came out very nice and I really like the brim, which does not have much upturn all around, especially in the rear. I would like the front to snap down more but it has proven to be somewhat steam resistant.

ET, I like the box bows too; it is my first.

Thank you sir! I am looking at getting a Jaxon pinch crown with a 2 1/2 inch brim from Village Hat Shop. That would be the widest brim I would own.
Ernest

I'm looking forward to seeing you in a wide-brim too, Ernest. I think you will like it, but then again, I am not particularly objective about brims.....:D .

What happens when an Akubra straw gets drenched?

SDC10243.jpg

For those of you interested in soggy straws I wore my Akubra Balmoral hemp straw hat on what began as a steamy hot subtropical day. After dashing across the city to a meeting I was caught without umbrella in a tropical storm on the way back to my office. And when I say 'caught' I mean absolutely drenched! When it storms here you can't see across the street.

Did my straw survive???? (I can feel you all holding your breath). Yep, these hemp hats are as tough as felt. Not only did my hat survive, but it even kept my head dry (the rest of me was not so lucky). Somehow this hat lets the breeze through but manages to keep out a tropical storm. Clever stuff!

This morning, I ran some errands wearing my Campdraft, but this afternoon/evening while out looking at wildlife at a local park, I wore my Federation.

Eph!

I looked up your weather this morning ... It was rather chilly here on the Great Plains, to say the least ... and found that you could well use the term "tropical" for what you are enjoying.

It just goes to show that some of our ancestors were smarter than others when it came to picking continents!;)
