You know I have been a member of a few forums about different topics but I must say that the response in this forum which I see towards each other is very positive. Thank you for your replies to my first couple of posts. I feel these vintage fedora hats hearken back to a time where a certain decorum existed between people. Sure there were problems, sure there was injustices just like today; but their was a certain "spice'' that existed that has been lost. There was a certain mystery. The excitement about what existed behind the hat; behind the clothes; was more powerful than what exists today when all is exposed and therfor has lost its essence; its strength.
I tell folks my hat wearing is trying to bring back a sense of civility in the world. You find that here, I think there is something in the felt...

Happy belated Sunday,
Started putting some of the felts away, but the persistent cold weather has slowed my progress.

First outing with the Gannon natural. I have a strong feeling this is going to be a go to hat. Open crown is 6" and has a 3" brim.

This natural felt is growing on me. I like the tone in the light. Very nice Bill.

One of my two best-fitting hats, the Mallory Eagle, paired with my new Aero A2. Just before going to the barber.

Does my heart good to see this classic out and about Fred. You look great in it.

There should a discussion about what defines a "beater". That looks like a good a hat as any, Mike.
There is a beater thread a couple of pages back. I think the term is now well defined. Need to post this one there.

Been busy taking pictures the last couple of days (of boats, not hats), but today there was room for a quick selfie. Borsalino Ghiaccio.

The color and shape of this Borsalino is fantastic Stefan. It is a real joy to see.

There is. ;)
Need to post this one on that thread. It fits the combined definition worked out by you and other scholars.

I like the steel color. I'm in the queue with Mike Miller for a Whippet clone in this felt. Your Gannon is to die for!

Hey all!
This 40's Adam Premier gets the nod on a breezy afternoon.

Fantastic color and lines. I love the old Adam logos with the top hats. Cool 'Burg John.

Hatatorium Custom. I put the crease in it. Saw it in an old western...

Just a great hat. I'm still just so darned jazzed for you. It looks great.
Thanks!

I was really surprised. When I first emailed the lady selling it locally I originally thought Intook a 7 5/8 and she originally told me she wasn't sure of the size and thought it might be a 7. A week later I emailed her back after finding put my head is 23 inches around so I thought hmmm that is a 7 3/8 and asked her if she could measure the inside of the hat. She replied a few hours later and said they found a size for it of 7 1/2. I thought hmmm it might be a little big but it fits right on.

To top it off, my head is very oval and long from front to back and this hat happens to be a long oval.

Wow back in the day hats were so popular the manufacturers could make them in many sizes and head shapes too. Wow.

I looked last night on Ebay and saw that larger sized Whippets seem to command a higher price and instantly a thought came to mind. Should I sell it.

But then I thought. Really where am I going to fund a hat from the 50s that fits me and is a style that is neither to large nor to small and I think this one fits the bill.

Now I don't know what future to search for down the road.

Maybe a Derby?
