You didn't say what you use for a steamer but when a hat is really stiff like that I have had good luck with lots of hot steam that has a lot of hot water content to the steam. Really soak the felt pretty good. The hot water will penetrate & soften the stiffener better than just steam alone. When the felt cools to the touch it is time to steam it again. Just use tap water, but because the water is boiling it purifies & will not mark the felt. So if you are just using a tea kettle then you may have to come up with something else. Can't believe how stiff this thing is. I used so much steam on this hat you would swear you were at a pipe fitters convention. Not the crease I wanted but apparently it's the crease the hat wanted
Hey, that looks pretty cool !! A tequila name from the times Don Julio was still family owned by the Gonzalez family from Atotonilco el Alto Jalisco !!View attachment 100321 On the final day of 2017, my light sage Vintage Silhouettes dress felt at my sister/brother-in-law's in preparation for this evening. Full disclosure... we started early.
Who could I think of, except for @Chamuco when we polished off this bottle! How'd we do, Rodolfo?!!
Thanks !!! Michael build it as close as we could "guess" the original ones that Dillinger wore were made.O Yes! That looks soooo good!
Well, all do respect Jack, I would rather use that machine to get some Irish coffee .... Or just a nice Expresso and drink it along a nice shot of Single Malt. You didn't say what you use for a steamer but when a hat is really stiff like that I have had good luck with lots of hot steam that has a lot of hot water content to the steam. My moonstone CD was probably the stiffest felt I have encountered so far & I got it pretty wet with hot water & steam. I use an espresso machine with a brass boiler that has both a steam tap & a hot water tap, but it I barely crack open the steam tap I can get to a point where it will sputter water out with the steam & that is enough to get the felt hot & wet. I think the heat to soften the stiffener is the trick.

Well there goes my new years resolution to be less jealous out of the window!
Cool crease.View attachment 100414 View attachment 100415 View attachment 100416 View attachment 100414 View attachment 100415 I was going to wear my new Campdraft today but it's too dang cold. Nice hat, great radio, gorgeous lamp !!Wearing this Resistol Stagecoach conversion again today. I did a little tweaking to the pinch and made it tighter and I reflanged the brim again. I was trying to get a little closer to Alan Ladd's China hat. It has a nice tall straight crown with a 2 5/8 brim....here's the redo, (the picture of me wearing the hat is closer to the actual color).
Well Wesslyn, I can only say I am sorry for your lost, sometimes God moves in misterious ways, anyway it is very hard to even accept some things, may you be wise and strong to go through this times. And absolutely frigid day, literally and figuratively. -5 outside. Went to a funeral today for one of my oldest and closest friends who was taken on Christmas in a senseless act of violence.
Some things I'll never understand. I wore a 60s Bee today.

Thanks Red. Unfortunately it doesn't sound like it's going to warm up here for quite a long time. The Marathon looks good after a little winter sleep. Maybe the cold will break soon and the flow of fedoras will emanate from your closet. Enjoy your day Michael.
Thanks Steur. Hope you have a hatty new year too.Have good year, Michael. I look forward to every post you make.
Thanks Mike !! Happy New and Healthy Year for you and your loved ones !!Happy New Year to you mi amigo! The Dillinger is beautiful, love the colors.
No worries Chamuco. Plenty of espresso ground beans get pressed thru this group head. I had to replace & lube the seals just a few months ago. And I still buy coffee out daily!Well, all do respect Jack, I would rather use that machine to get some Irish coffee .... Or just a nice Expresso and drink it along a nice shot of Single Malt.
Wet heat is definitely the key to softening the stiffener & to getting that clay like feel to the felt.I have used a sprayer with warm distilled water for my CD's, just make it wet enough to crease it and it worked very well.
Chamuco, I have a BGG that I love! Came out of the box nice and pliable. Took the bash I wanted with no problem. This Silverbelly is not cooperating at all. I wanted to put a diamond bash in it but so far no go. I'm going to give it sometime to see if it will soften up a bit then go at it again. I'm using a tea kettle.Cool crease.

Mine were also stiff, but as I have been wearing them they have become softer and softer, right now my BGG is very soft, almost like a vintage felt of high end felt feeling !!.
You will love it.

Hey there Jack, I'm using a tea kettle. Have not put any water to it yet, might give it some time to break in then try again. I wanted to put a diamond bash in it but the hat has fought me the whole way. Also wanted more of a bash you see on pictures of the newer Stratoliner. You didn't say what you use for a steamer but when a hat is really stiff like that I have had good luck with lots of hot steam that has a lot of hot water content to the steam. I rather like the brim, it give the hat a bit of character. Besides, it suits you very well!Mauerer in blue. I see it needs a little adjusting of the brim.
Thanks Stefan! What a way to end the year, John! Stunning. Let's keep it up this year and let's not forget Bob Roberts (he will be very very missed).
Thanks! I just hope I'll make it to 80!We should hope to look this good turning 90!
Jeez, that's a real shame. What a world we live in.That's tough. In a similar incident I lost a good friend back in October in a drive by shooting. He was shot in front of his own home with his wife watching. They never found the killer as far as I know. He was gone before the paramedics got him to the hospital. He was a good guy who loved to laugh and talk sports.
