Thanks Fed! Hopefully it will stay limber so I can get more usage out of it without fearing for it's safety every time I snap the brim down.Wow, Moe, good going! I would have never thought of using coconut oil on toquilla straw. It looks great!

Great hat and a interesting technique. Keep us posted on it's effectiveness.Hey all!
Another beautiful day.
I love this old 30's Adam Royal Quality Panama, but I don't wear it often because, as sometimes happens with these old pieces, the straw had become dry with age. It was at the point where I was very uneasy about snapping the brim down for fear of damaging the hat. So, today I had an idea. Toquilla is a palm. So is Coconut. I thought that maybe their oils could be similar. So, I got my jar of organic coconut oil out of the cupboard and rubbed a little on the brim, using the warmth of my fingers to melt it. It soaked in almost instantly. I applied a little more all around the brim, rubbed it in good and put the hat in a warm sunbeam for a few minutes. The difference in flexibility is amazing. Snaps right down, no creak, no nervousness, no greasy feeling. The straw just seems to have lost a few decades.
Anyhoo, here it is.
I certainly hope the revitalization lasts!
Have a great day!
