Oh, it split in several places the first time I tried on the hat. It was toast before the box was open. I tried to apply Lexol but it was a lost cause. So I just removed it in small pieces. How bad did the sweat crumble? Will it need to be replaced?
So yes, it will need a new sweat. The seller did give me a partial refund to cover the cost of a new sweat so I'm ok with it.
I was, at first, really disappointed. But after the refund, and the results of the naptha bath, I am liking this one now.
But no kidding, the naptha went from clear to dark brown/black in seconds. I was surprised how much dirt, grit and grime were packed into the felt. That naptha has been relegated to auto parts cleaner.... which I used Tuesday when working on my old car for about 3 or 4 hours.... brake job, oil change, degreased the engine compartment, washed and waxed the old reliable Hyundai, vintage 2001.
