A little chilly this morning. Time for felt with this stingy brim Charles Knox 40, recently cleaned in a naptha bath... much dirtier than I had thought. A 60's or 70's creation? But mighty fine "Cavanagh edge" felt.

That sure cleaned up nice. What is the little pin at the rear of the bow?

Out and about today with a Stetson Premier Stratoliner in cornhill. This was a stubborn, unforgiving hat to bash; a big thank you to Art Fawcett who kindly rescued it for me and gave it a mild diamond bash. Thickish felt, still stubborn, seems more like a carpet than hat felt, won't take a sharp pinch in the front; I wonder, are they are all this way? Crown height is a bit low for me, so it's currently a nice entry in the beater/casual category. View attachment 84086

I've never even used steam on mine , its soft . Must be a big difference in the consistency of the felt . Looks good .

Ha ha, yes. And there is a sort of funny story in there involving an unknown barber shop with the barber turning out to be a Chinese grandmother and me saying off the ears. Does make it easier to see the hat brims. And I do like the brim on this hat.
