Ouch -- I feel the same way about my tawny Fed IV -- it's a standard quality fur and it never really opened up -- feels very stiff, like it should be a more formal hat, but also very thick, so it's quite heavy. My moonstone is a deluxe quality and it responded well to steam - started breathing nicely - but I would say it is also on the stiff side so I haven't worn either Feds in a long time. I'm thinking of retiring the tawny as a project hat...

It's supposed to be raining a lot today, but I have yet to see anything... of course, after I made the decision to go with my foul weather hat. Ah, it's ok as I've got Boy Scouts tonight and don't want to be too dressy around those lovely hooligans!

A Stratton western cleaned up and converted to an Outback hat, and sprayed with a can of that water repellent spray for hats. It didn't stain or change the color of the felt, but it really does very little to stop the rain from eventually penetrating the felt. I'd say, save your money on that stuff.
