not always an indicator because it is not often the felt that shrinks but the sweat

a lot of times that will tell you the hat had been stretched
I'll need to think about that.

The only hat I've checked , being a newby to this whole thing, the ribbon, except at the bow, is sown to the crown just above the flange (right word? ...where the felt changes from crown to brim). Since I don't believe the ribbon shrinks as fast as the felt (or at least at a slower rate), it seems like a hat that has shrunk will show gaps between the crown and the top of the ribbon.

Still thinking about all that complex geometry and stuff. What you said is starting to make sense, but now I'm thinking the gaps between ribbon and crown (when looking down on the hat) may be subtly different. Thinking, thinking, thinking...

You might want to try a small amount of nail polish remover but it could damage the felt (color and / or structure).

Cyanoacrylate adhesives like Super Glue can generally be removed with acetone (the main active ingredient in nail polish remover). My experience using acetone as a spot cleaner on felt is that it will lighten the area around the stain. Good luck with the repair!
