What are you going to DragonCon as?

I use the con as a place to network since I proofread on the side. The literature tracks are a great place to meet with and speak to authors, and I've managed to land a few jobs this way.

It's not all business, though. I spend a lot of time in the gaming areas since my wife and I are heavily into various board games and RPGs. Thanks to people like Wil Wheaton and his "Tabletop" web show, lots of the games are getting popular and many new ones are hitting the market.

Although I'm basically an introvert, I can enjoy the crowds when I hide behind a costume. The one I prefer is the easiest one for me since it requires hardly any props. Shave my head, grow a goatee and shade it reddish-brown, wear khakis and a simple plaid shirt, dark sunglasses, a black pork-pie, and carry a tiny baggie of blue rock candy in my pocket. Suddenly I'm everyone's favorite chemist from New Mexico, and I tend to get asked to pose for pictures when people see me.

Sometime around 1984-5, on about our fourth date, my girlfriend told me, "You'd look good with a beard." So what the heck, she was cute, I was smitten, so I grew a beard. I've had the beard ever since, only shaving once or twice way back when for a respirator fit test. Oh, the girl stuck around too. After 30 years, she has no idea what I really look like! What are you going to DragonCon as?

I've had a beard for about 20 years now

in 1995 I was 20/21 years old and it was the first time it came in full with little to no patches .... it has stayed ever since

various lengths of course... but it has always been there

Another pug vote, Moon. I'm glad you got that. I almost sent you a PM to alert you, as I was trying to decide if I should bid on it. When your bid went in, I decided I didn't want it bad enough to fight for it, and backed off.

I'm glad it was you. I think the pug looks summery, as well.
