Thanks for yesterday's comments! Perry, et al, it is indeed a dark grey with a matching color ribbon and binding. Not so dark as my Champ "Black Hawk" but certainly darker than most. I really dig that braided ribbon on your hat this morning!

I'm really enjoying everyone's posts!

Josh, the new ribbon is outstanding on that western. I like the new crease as well. When you softened down the high sides of the brim, did you leave it the same width? Looks great, man!

gtdean, the Biltmore glows. I know there have been mixed reviews on the felt quality, but that thing just looks so clean and nice.

Alan, beautiful Panama. I found an Optimo style hat recently that was made from a very wide weave, probably paper straw. I didn't buy it, but now I"m reconsidering...

g. durand, the Vita-felt conversion looks very classy. nice silver binding.

This little wormser is getting no love on eBay, so I'm giving it a spin this morning.

Super job, Josh, looks great on you!!

Thanks so much, Perry!!

Thanks, Jeff!! I left the brim the same width. It took barely any material off, just enough to "round" everything up. It wasn't a horrible factory cut, but wasn't great either.

A grateful thanks for all of your kind comments and birthday wishes!

Nice "birthday suit" Al, I love that creamy colored double breasted look. Looks like some nice hats there too!

And Happy Birthday from another August baby.

Thanks, and indeed, lots o' hats! ;) A belated or early Happy Birthday to you, Perry, and a beautiful Stetson this morning!

AL - Great shots, nice suit, great hats (particularly the Optimo monticristi) and Happy Birthday.

Love your portraits, 'en plein air', Richard, and thank you.

Al, Richard, beautiful photos. Love the wheat and the giant GBS. That den of antique treasures looks like a blast.
Old panama... doesn't come close to the magnificence of Al's Optimos, but it does have experience. From Peoria, Ill.

ps... happy birthday, kiddo.

Your glorious hat collection is surpassed only by your humility and generosity, my friend! Thanks as always for your kind words, I do feel like a quinquagenarian kid! By the by, your old Midwestern optimo is among my favorites.

Hello All! Great looking hats on all of you.
Al- you have to reveal the what and where of that shop you are standing in. Please, please from a fellow Minnesotan.

;) Shoot me a PM when you are able to do so, neighbor, and welcome! Linda's place is not a brick and mortar store. It is a veritable archive and museum...the fruit of forty years of collecting with a discerning eye and impeccable taste.

Some nice hats today guys - that Palm Beach suit is smashing, Al. Looks like a great store for vintage clothes and hats too. Happy birthday!

Thanks again for the birthday wishes and kind remarks, David! This Palm Beach suit is very dear to me as it is the only example I have ever come across in 44L(approximate), and the pants fit perfectly as well!

Al, fantastic, lovely old birthday suit. A sharp combination with the Optimo.
A Happy Birthday Al, I am an August Baby too!

My sincere thanks, Manfred, and a belated or early Happy Birthday to you also!

My Resistol

Good afternoon Gents! Everyone of you guys are looking great today! I love the collection of hats!

casechopper, the Fed IV is just one of those hats that's hard to beat!

Josh, I'm lovin' the conversion! Excellent!

bowlerman, nobody adds class to a stingy like you do!

delectans, Happy Birthday! I love the Panamas you wear!

Chepstow, Excellent look my friend!

Orangegrad, I really like your Squatter! That's a really nice hat!

Anyway, Here's my first real attempt at reshaping and reblocking a fedora. I'm using my 4X Resistol Stagecoach for this one. It used to be a Western hat but the guy I bought it from converted it to a fedora. The open crown on this baby is 6 inches and it had one heck of a taper. I watched a video that DJH had posted on how to do this. So per his instructions I removed the liner and soaked the hat pretty good. Then I stretched it over a Sherwin Williams paint can to try and get as much taper out as I could. Afterward I attempted another Indy crease but had to go with a C-crown instead of a Center Dent to keep the taper at as much minimum as I could. I salvaged some gross grain ribbon off a DP woolie and I'm now waiting on the hat to dry before I put things back together. The hat still has some taper to it but not as bad as before. I got the creases so sharp I could shave with this hat!...The crown height is bashed at 4 3/4 in the front to 4 1/4 in the back...I'll just see how it turns out after it dries...

Nice hats gentleman

T Jones, I love sharp creases myself. Tends to be my go to. Be aware, however, that once you put a crease that sharp in a hat it's fairly difficult to remove it. The felt gets pulled tight in that area and often leaves a line that won't come out without a fair amount of pouncing and ironing.

A thrill-a-minute here today, guys. Grreat bash, there, TJones! Now, that's a Milan, Robert... ANOTHER beauty. Manfred is in COMPLETE CONTROL with that extreme power-lid. I really like porkpies, and that one's a classic, Richard! OGrad, the Squatter is always perfect. ALL great lids from everyone, and birthday wishes to all the August babies!

Took Mom to visit Pop today, (VS steel, dress wgt. beaver) left a stone, then drove home...

I´m waiting for someone to post an ugly hat. That has not yet happened and looks like it never will! Great posts and hats You all! I´m impressed (and a bit envious). Especially the way you guys wear your hats is magnificent.
