Florida in October? No need to think twice, as it is a beautiful time of the year there. This year, my annual big professional meeting was held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. Ryan happened to have an extra two days of break from school during the Minnesota Educator's Association convention which took place in Minneapolis at the same time, and so it was that we packed our bags and winged our way to the "Sunshine State" for a few days of adventure.

Browsing the excellent selection at the White River Fly Shop within the store. On the wall are two of the greatest gamefish on flyrod: Permit and Tarpon, two-thirds of the Keys Grand Slam.
Orlando? You should've called me :)
That's a pretty small Permit - are you sure it's not a Pompano? ;)

Great pictures that tug a lot of heartstrings here... Diagon Alley, Bass Pro (our city leaders tried to give the world to this chain to open a store in downtown Buffalo, to great controversy and debate, they bailed.) This is my new favorite Orlando portrait:

Doesn't seem to let me repost the link... the domed ceiling portrait with yellow light fixture... perfection!

Ale: Thanks, my friend!

Mike: lol ANY permit caught on a fly is a trophy! Sorry we did not give you a buzz, did not want to presume and did not wish to intrude. Next time we are in town I will be sure to contact you in advance. :yo:

Alan: Thank you! Too bad about Bass Pro bailing on Buffalo. Difficult not to take a collective civic affront to such corporate decisions.

Thank you Steve... and agree with your :eusa_clap for all the great Borsalinos posted today. You won't catch me rocking the boat. Here is a featherweight and day two of glorious maple color.

I don't know how you do it, Alan, but you have an incredible ability to pair any clothing to any hat. The shirt, Jacket, hat, and leaves in the background all match and go wonderfully together. That picture just speaks of the fall season. Awesome.:eusa_clap:eusa_clap

Some great shots here! It makes me want to actually get out somewhere where I have an occasion to wear my hat.

At the MSP Lindbergh Terminal McDonalds' before dawn. My favorite lid, sitting atop a duffle filled with three felt hats carefully packed for the trip: Royal Hat Works; Stetson Standard Quality, and Optimo Silvebelly.

This photos are beautiful and interesting, no less than what we've come to expect.

My question is how do you pack three felt hats in the duffle? I'm going to be leaving on an extended trip, and I'd like to take three hats. The plastic hat box from Bencrafts appears to be the best way to protect hats, but I'll be limited to one worn and one packed.

Some great pictures Al.

We also enjoy the Portofino at Universal. It has become our favorite hotel in Orlando. I see you enjoyed some butter beer as well!

My only question: assuming you frequent the rides, what do you do with your hat? One of the reasons I don't wear a proper hat at amusement parks.

Thank you for the kind words, gentlemen.

Akahige: Thanks, and I hope to see some of your photos here soon!

BR: You are too kind, but I appreciate your remarks.

As for packing the hats, I have found that a leather duffle works best, since it inherently has some structure but is yet resilient. I pack the hats in medium sized trash bags somwhat loosely, so there is a slight pocket of air around the lids, and tuck the excess material into the crown. The lids are placed on their sides, loosely stacked, and arranged diagonally across the interior of the duffle, with the one with the firmest felt outermost. Care still needs to be taken during transport, of course, but this method has worked very well for me.

Gromulus: Thank you. The Portofino is a lovely place to stay in Orlando, and our favorite as well(when not at Disneyworld). The Butter Beer was actually quite good, we thought, though the lines were extraordinarily long by the keg. Much easier to quaff a pint at the Three Broomsticks, where there was usually no waiting.

As for the rides, I carried along a trashbag for each of my lids, in my camera bag, and used the lockers provided to stow them whenever called for. Universal Studios should be lauded for making them available. These stowage lockers are becoming the norm at most parks with state-of-the-art thrill rides, I believe, though I do not recall seeing them at Disneyworld the last time we were there.

Superb photos as always, Al. Your eye for a striking scenario never disappoints.

Thanks too, for your kind words on my NC vacation shots and your compliments to EB. She is the apple of her grandfather's eye and shockingly intelligent. My wife read an interesting article about our memory not developing fully until adulthood. If that is the case, EB is downright scary, as she, at 4 years old, remembers minute details that occurred on trips occurring a year or more ago.

Exactly why your trips with her are priceless, the memories of which she will no doubt share with her children!

Thank you for your very kind words, I sincerely appreciate them.

New bash in my Stetson Temple

Working at home today and running errands. Wearing my Stetson Temple.

I never really liked the taper of the factory center dent bash in my Temple. Last night I was watching Niagara (1953) on TCM, and saw a bash something like this. Decided to re-bash the Temple while watching the movie.

I also received this B! Wear cap in the mail today. I am impressed with the quality of the work Brett does. But I'm thinking that this 8-panel just isn't the right cut for my long, narrow face.

Thanks for the kind words, Josh... it sure helps to have several hats to choose from. 8^)

Today I'm back in front of my maple. The color keeps getting better and better and then you wake up one morning and every leaf is on the ground. Funny tree. Wearing my new Borso, fresh from steaming after 60+ years rolled in a box. I wish I could fluff myself up this easily each morning.

Thanks! Took a bit of work with the steamer and iron, but I think its shaping up. Josh, I'm pretty sure it was never worn.

Additional photos posting shortly.
