An Unforgettable Weekend

Permit me the indulgence of posting some photos from this past weekend, an especially engrossing but satisfying few days involving two things I am passionate about...music and hats!

Arriving at Orchestra Hall, Minneapolis last Thursday morning for rehearsal with the Minnesota Orchestra. Optimo natural Silverbelly.

Accepting the congratulatory handshake from conductor Sarah Hicks immediately following the performance Friday evening. The Minnesota Orchestra's Concertmaster, Sarah Kwak, to my right.

Sharing a lighter moment during the applause.

In the lobby of Orchestra Hall following the concert. The Minnesota Orchestra's Combination 4 Dress does not include a hat!

Enjoying the beautiful weather at Severs' Corn Maze & Fall Festival Saturday afternoon. Penney's Marathon on a melon, er, pumpkin. Ryan's hat for the day.

Blending in, with my $2 Adam Mr. Airwate.

Walking the maze.

The third weekend in a row I have been successful in finding nice vintage lids in my size. Pristine, '40s-'50s Stetson Boater, in 7-1/2!

Wonderful, but diminutive, very early Christy's Boater.

Early Sunday morning breakfast at Cecil's Deli. My favorite felt to wrap up a memorable weekend.

Al, GORGEOUS photos! This photo is by far my favorite. (Even though your not wearing a hat ;) ) I have played Jazz & Blues guitar for years, but have always dreamed of playing the Violin in a Symphony Orchestra setting. This is truly a wonderful picture. Congratulations on all of your success with antique store fedora hunting. I usually find most of my hats online, and only on a very rare occasion will an antique store by me have a fine vintage lid. Well done!! :eusa_clap:eusa_clap:eusa_clap

Today I'm wearing my Resistol "Sub-Thompson"

I've been wearing this hat for about a week now and have received more, "nice hat," "hey man I like that hat," "where can I buy a hat like that?," than any other hat that I own. This hat has pretty normal crease heights in front and back, but the peak of the crown (creased) stands at 5 5/8. I think people notice the hat because of the 20's/30's proportions. I really have to make more of these in different colors.

Al; Congrats sir! You look very pleased and satisfied in the pics at your performance. I am an admirer of the music. Nothing like good music and of course a good hat. You show consumate performances with both. Thanks for sharing your wonderfull moment this past week.

Like Josh and yourself, I love music. My love tends to go to acoustic blues of the 1920-40's. When, rare occasion, I perform locally, I am much anxiety. I can stand in front of thousands, be on TV, give interviews, but sitting on a local stage with only dozens in front of me and my guitar - I am ridden with anxiety. I tip my hat to you Al. My shirt would have showed prespiration marks after such a performance. I do admire proffesional muscians and their considerable skills. BTW: No hat dress code - Ah ha, switch music - most blues acoustic muscians that I play with have lids (albeit caps, cloth, straw and felt).

We are off to the apple fests/fields this weekend. Off towards Afton is our plan. I will look back to your post for the "correct" headware in MN.

Off to tune and play some Broonzy, Eric -

Thank you for the most kind comments, my hatted friends!

Perry: So, I take it that you did not find the photos a bit corn-y, eh? :D

BR: At various times the camera is in the very capable hands of my wife Lydia, our son Ryan, or, when my parents are visiting, my Dad, himself an avid photographer. Even my Mom has gotten in on the action. I am blessed!

Josh: Now THAT is a crown! Are you sure the hat is the "Sub-Thompson" and not "Thompson-Sub" lol. Should be required headwear for any self-respecting tough guy. Wow, I did not realize that you play jazz & blues guitar, I would love to hear you play next time we head down to Chicago. We have heard some incredible jam sessions at Kingston Mines.

Eric: It sure feels good to be in the company of those who appreciate music AND hats! We love delta blues, and listened to alot of it when we lived in New Orleans for three years. Would love to come to one of your gigs! Afton and apples sounds like a great plan for this weekend, and I will be looking for your lead on hats! :yo:

Splendid photos, everyone. I love coming back to the lounge after being away for several days to the wealth of beautiful new pictures.

Lefty: Wonderful set of photos of what looks to be an eclectic gathering. The Capoeira demonstration must have been fun to watch! Your Borsalino is simply magnificent!

Alan: So you done gone and turned Texan! Looking dapper as always in whatever getup you choose, and such excellent hat choices for the trip. Those images of the devastating aftermath of the fire are hauntingly beautiful.

DavidJ: You and Irene cut quite the figure at your Prom!

Mike: Great to see you posting to the thread again, and there is nothing to be ashamed of. I love the in-the-field photos you post. That Parkleigh is a fine looking lid!

Jeff: That fellow can wear your hat, but just does not have the attitude thing down pat like you do! I really like your Tim Bender bowler.

Love this hat!

Al - As always great photos and sweet hats.

Josh - Nice lid, but that little grin makes me wonder if you're about to bust my kneecaps.

Hey, thanks for the nice words, Justin, and I agree, there is something decidedly mischievous and elfin about Josh's grin! I mean, just look at him!

Love that high crowned Thomson, Josh, you could probably hide a machine gun in there!

Looking very debonair in your AB Kiltie.

It's nice to see so many talented folk on this forum. I am a rank amatuer guitar player, but I have a love for all kinds of music. You could have quite a jam with Kiltie's pipes, Josh's guitar and Al's violin!

:amen: , from another amateur musician.

Looks like the guitarists rule the roost here! There is also our resident Principle Oboe, Jeff, aka bowlerman, and acoustic blues guitarist Eric, aka SBG, who posted above.
