Hatophile, that is a great hat! Love the binding too, just got my first with similar wide binding (no pics yet, maybe later today).

For now, wearing the black Capas 8/4 cap I picked up on sale at Henry The Hatter's last week. Black linen.

Quick webcam pic.

Alan: Thanks, it is always a pleasure to have you along! No matter where, or how far afield we may be, it always feels like my fellow loungers are with us in spirit if not body!

G MAN: Beautiful pics, and lovely family. Hat details? Looks great on you.

DJH, you have some fantastic hats. :eusa_clap
:arated: Agreed!
I third that!

Thanks, guys. I've been very lucky in getting hold of some nice hats this year.

Nice Whippety Adam Hatto!

Could we see a liner shot of that one? Very nice looking BTW. About how old is that one?

Cheers!

Dan

Dan, I've not had the chance to take any photos yet, but here's one that Douglas posted (he was the previous owner)

Douglas thought the hat was from late 30's, early 40's period.

Starlights

A few grainy snapshots from Saturday night's fundraiser at the Buffalo Museum of Science. We get a couple of thousand up to the rooftop observatory to hopefully see some planets and stars. This night, the clouds allowed only a telescopic architectural tour of the downtown buildings. Fun anyway.

my vintage 5" Zeiss refractor is a babe magnet. Or maybe it's my yeddo boater? :nerd:

Alan,

You look great in that hat - not many can do so. Thanks for sharing the pics. Actually, thanks to all who have shared their photos.

Al,

Incredible pictures - both subjects and photography. The Optimo look perfect on you, but with that tight weave, wasn't it rather hot?

Had a real nice Rainbow after a thunder storm at the beach. I and my new Worth Walden weathered it well. I have put some steam to the brim. Tom how to you like the swoop?

Alan: As much as I love Zeiss refractors...I use one( a pair, actually) nearly every day at work...I think your elan in that linen jacket and boater is the draw.

Bob: Thank you for your very kind remarks, I really appreciate them!

Regarding the suitability of high weave count Montecristis in warm weather, I can provide you with some of my observations. While many respected loungers have commented on the ineffectiveness of fine Monetecristis in providing adequate ventilation, I have had a very different experience.

I have worn my Montecristi exclusively this Summer, hiking, climbing, knocking about town, and even during the uncharacteristically warm and humid weather we had last week here in Minnesota, when temps were in the mid 90s and we broke the all-time Minnesota dew point record with readings in the 80s( equivalent to, and exceeding levels in the Amazonian Rain Forest!), I felt quite comfortable.

Certainly, I perspired profusely, but the finely woven Montecristi is so light, extraordinarily supple and unexpectedly breathable that I actually felt less warm wearing it, than I did with my Tilley, lightweight felts or even my Optimo Milan, which I love dearly. I do believe, however, that there is a 'sweet spot' for weave count and practical usability, beyond which its effectiveness as functional warm weather/sun wear can be significantly compromised.

I would not hesitate to consider a fine Montecristi as an all-purpose Summer hat, and intend to wear the heck out of mine!

Cheers,

AL

Looks like some good family fun going on Billy. Nice hats too!

Beautiful morning here in New Hampshire. I'm enjoying it whilst wearing my VS Sportaire.
