David, as a photog as well - I'm just beginning my search for a quality hat, I'm tired of the ballcap/visor look and was curious what works for you when shooting. I'd like to find a hat that doesn't need kicked back on my head when I have the camera in position. I've got my eye on the ivy/rider style hats, but a fedora may get in the way as did the ball cap with the extended bill/rim.

Thanks!

chuck

Chuck, I have to admit that the only hat that works for me when shooting is a backwards baseball cap - Phillies, in my case!

I find that my fedoras just get in the way, although I can get away with it if I shoot in landscape orientation all the time, with no flash on the camera - bit limiting though.

I keep meaning to try out a newsboy hat - I'm told that this should work because of the very short brim.

Today - no photo job to be done - it's my custom Pecan hat from Tumwater Hat Co

My only hat story..

A couple of years ago my dear wife had it in her silly head that I favoured the actor Anthony Hopkins (certain light, certain angle, didn't see it myself...but hey!)

She asked me to wear a black shirt with the above titfer for an evening out at our local town's "wine bar" - why not?

As the fates would have it we stood behind an attractive young couple waiting to be seated, the female was explaining her terror at Sir Anthony's roll in one of the 'Hannibal' cinematic performances to her companion.....at this point they had not noticed us.
I leant forward and close to her right ear and huskily whispered "Well hello Clarice", she looked at me and issued an extremely high pitched wimper.

I do believe she 'went' a little....

I wanted to make a new avatar for my twitter account (sporting my black VS)

That's great RcrX. Funny, the other day I was doing the exact same thing - in my case killing time while waiting for my wife to work on my daughter and her gang's hair at her salon

David, the newsboy hat is one that appeals to me as far as looks and working with a camera. I will be getting one very soon, I'm still reading reviews and comments on them. Once I start to see consitency in terms of brand, durability, looks and feel - I'll roll the dice and make the purchase soon!!

Thanks for the help!!

A day at the circus in my VS thin-ribbon. The show was nice, if a bit tame. It's nice to see small, family-owned circuses keping traditions alive. And you could buy plastic light-sabers for just ten euros.

@ MikePotts ... Sir you do have the look. Now channel him with his voice and you can give more than a few people chills. A white summer suit, a Panama hat and the voice delivering a few memorable lines should do the job.

Thanks, fellows! I did indeed take quite a few photos; I'll post some more tomorrow. It was a neat experience; I think all the performers were members of the same family. The usher who seated people on the bleachers was about five years old, and there were kids and adults of all ages working together.
