Ok, changing the subject!
Here's the other hat pictured in the weird auction I won. Maybe they'll send me both hats in the Dobbs box?

I don’t think we need any fanning of the flames. I generally like Jim’s posts, and he’s been the beneficiary of some of my “wholesale” hat buying of sizes not my own. I don’t know where this is coming from. I’m definitely not part of the virtue of selfishness crowd, but I’m not any kind of socialist either.
So lemme get this straight, Mr. Good Looks - this is a thread, similar to one we have on the jacket side, where members post about cool things they bought and are excited about and are anxiously waiting to arrive. You, a flipper of hats who buys with the sole intent of reselling at a higher price, post about some hats that you can't wear and that someone else had their eye on for their own use.

You don't seem to understand how you are viewed negatively as a result of this? You think others are going to get excited when you post here about some bargains you bought and will see listed at a higher price?

Has anyone besides your mother called you deadly handsome? These are the questions we're all waiting to be answered. I look forward to a tone deaf reply.

I thought we changed the subject back to What hat are you waiting for? I'm going to defend Brent here. This forum pretty much wouldn't exist without guys like him buying five hats a week, otherwise you'd have the random hobbyist like me posting a couple of times a year (at best), with maybe, again like myself, a "big year" when I first got into this scene and bought a bunch of lids. An auction is just that, a competition. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and if you want a hat that's sought after, you're going to have to step up and pay for it. This thread is for people that are excited for each other on the winning side. Pretty sure there's a couple of barstools in the lounge for crying over ebay swings and misses. Go there to whine.

I enjoy interacting with all of you gentlemen and while I’m sure we all have our days where we might get a bit bristled.. I mostly enjoy that this group doesn’t much engage in personal attacks and are overall supportive of each other in our … as some would say… weird hat obsession. (aside from obvious and not so obvious but generally good natured ribbing and banter) So I have no desire to go down that road… and I’m sure Jim and Brent will or already have worked this out in their own time.

What I will say in regards to this discussion… and relevant to the mentioned threads. Jim is certainly entitled to his opinion and I understand what he is saying to a certain degree. However when it comes to Brent and Bob (as Bob’s name was mentioned) I do not agree. Yes, both Brent and Bob do buy hats with the intention of flipping them. However It is not as if they have a never ending “wholesale source” that is not directly available to the rest of us to purchase inventory. With time and bid money invested any of us could make those purchases. From my own experience of combing the sites for my own collection… I can tell the amount of time and energy put in to find these hats is far greater than their monetary value. Also that I think we would all for the most part agree that posting our finds is highly addictive. So with that in mind and also in getting to know Bob and Brent over the years… I believe their first intention when posting their finds is the same as the rest of us. The excitement of Sharing our latest find. If they were relegated to only post hat finds in their size… their contributions would be significantly reduced p….as we know vintage hats 7 1/2 upwards are much less common. And quite honestly they both have unearthed and saved some special hats that might have never seen the light of day. Also.. just to note.. if we were to invoke such a rule that would also apply to a couple of European enablers whom I think we all can agree ad far more to this forum than they take away.

BTW…. In the spirit if good natured ribbing. Jim… when I read your comment about having a plot…. All I could envision was Steve Martin’s rant on John Candy’s character in Planes Trains and Automobiles

“And by the way, you know, when you're telling these little stories? Here's a good idea: have a point. It makes it so much more interesting for the listener!”

That’s my take… I too can be long winded…. I hope I had a point

Well, I sure get excited when DH posts hats in this thread because he gives away a lot of hats that he buys to other Loungers. Some he flips and sells, and a big lot of them he gives away too. I know because he's given me a lot of hats and asked for nothing in return, and he's done that for others here too. Of Brent, many of us here see him as generous.

You make some good points. It's not so much losing, it's who I'm losing to and why.

Threadjack over.
