Distinctly calls to mind Nell Campbell's hotpants in Rocky Horror Picture Show -

Would love to know if whoever fitted it knew - or if that was the intent! Assuming it's not the original liner the hat would have had?

I'm waiting on the first new fedora I've picked up in a year or two - an Akubra Federation Deluxe Mark IV in dark brown winging its way up from the bottom of the globe. My original Mk III is currently in storage. Plenty of life left in it, but it's got a few moth nibbles and has aged a little, and I decided to keep it for more of a beater, treat myself to something new and nice. I already also have the standard Fed III in tan, and one in carbon grey. At some point I'll round out my Fed collection with one or the other (Std or DLX) in a Moonstone. The only real difference I can find between them is the standard felt is all rabbit, the DLX is a rabbit/hare mix. The tan ones are slightly different colours, though not for me sufficiently distinct from each other as to quite justify buying both. Don't have the black one yet. I do have two other black fedoras that fill that spot...

The next hat I'm 'waiting' for will I think be a navy fedora, from the Hat Centre in Stamford Hill. Small, independent business run by a very pleasant older Jewish gentleman, with a great online shop. He does a nice model that's close to the Federation in dimensions, though with a slightly wider brim (the full 3"). Very nice indeed. Can't quite tell if there's just a tiny bit more taper than the Akubra, but it has a great look. Wind trolley too!

Sadly, I’m guessing the liner is original to the hat and not a one-off modeled off of Nell Campbell’s hot pants. I did a google image search and it found a similar hat with the same liner as mine but with a more recent size tag.

That auction tonight was a bit more costly than I was hoping. I was surprised that the Shudde Bros. went that high…and the 4X Twenty Henry the Hatter too. I thought for sure I was going to get both of those.

That auction tonight was a bit more costly than I was hoping. I was surprised that the Shudde Bros. went that high…and the 4X Twenty Henry the Hatter too. I thought for sure I was going to get both of those.

Sorry you missed out on those. They all went pretty high -- at least my wallet thought so. I really liked the Henry the Hatter One Hundred.

I had to dig deeper than I wanted, but I ended up with the Henry the Hatter One Hundred, the Stetson Beaver 100, and the 7XCB.

I was thinking about driving to Joseph, Oregon to pick them up, but it’s a 15-hour trip one way and gas in California is over $5 a gallon. I hope shipping isn’t too bad. Joseph, Oregon sure looks beautiful, and my kind of place.

It was fun bidding, for a few hours I thought I really hit the jackpot. When I realized all those hats were 7 5/8 my wife wondered what all the yelling was about. , it's funny after years of lurking on this site I logged on to get info about Henry the Hatter and discovered my favorite eBay seller was the winning bidder. It was a good long laugh. Pick-up is between noon and 6 tomorrow at the Brennan Ranch, I'll be up at noon and will probably run into the winner of the Shudde Bros, This is a really rural county, with no traffic lights, 7000 people, and no secrets. There was a lot of local interest in this auction. I know several rodeo board members were bidding on the hats but we buried them early. I'll post a picture of the 4X when I get it, and I won't play 3 card monte with the hat boxes.

The 100x hats are beautiful, I almost ran the bidding up to a grand for the Stetson last night and I wouldn't have regretted it today. I'm glad I was able to compare both Henery the Hatter felts, I felt no difference between the hat labeled 4x and the 100x. There was some grumbling about how much the felts sold for, mainly from a self-described expert appraiser who bought a truckload of stuff and thought all the hats were worth much more than they sold for. My HH felt is a bit snug, I'm between a 7 5/8 and a 7 3/4. The felt feels great and holds a crease well. I'll wait a week before I snip the reed. The happiest guys there were loading Walter Brennans' immaculate white 71 Cadillac Sedan, I should have bid more but no one is screaming at me about a divorce.

I’ve never seen a 4X like yours. Stetson made the 4X in the 1950s and earlier (not to be confused by the more modern incarnations of the 4X as a lower tier hat) that are very scarce. I’ve never personally held one, but your hat looks to be a close equivalent.

I’m also a large 7 ⅝ and prefer 7 ¾ so I’m really hoping these hats are going to work for me.

I’ve never visited your part of Oregon, but it looks beautiful. What’s the best time of the year to see the area?
