My Dobbs Dutton in Cordova Brown arrived today. For the money, I have been amply rewarded. The retail tag inside the sweatband reads $99.95. I paid $34.95 shipped to my door.

The hat is beautiful! It is a deep and dark brown that is so rich, you almost want to eat it. It fits well and looks great.

Kudos to Pauly's half-price hats! (and a tip of my new Dobbs Dutton to Pauly)!

Go shopping there. You'll get more "bang for your buck" than any other online shop I have seen.

You need to start posting some pics of your acquisitions, Captain.

I grabbed a NOS Dobbs Temptation off ebay last year for $40 shipped to my door. I was actually surprised at the quality of the short-hair finished felt. As dark brown as I've ever seen. I had Mike Miller put a new sweat in it for me and he said he was also surprised at how nice the felt was on this one.

That's the color of my Dutton. the underwelt of the brim makes it look rich.

Does anyone else, dislike (and remove) the feather from their hats?

I've seen the auction pictures and that hat is more than beautiful. Congratulations are in order. As to the buying game: how much of the future is really foreseeable? It's a bit like the weather forecast: two or three days maybe...

I like this hat more every time I see it. I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, but that is the perfect ribbon/puggaree for that hat--complementary color to the felt, and it reflects light beautifully.

I have removed the feathers from several hats, but left it in on this Dobbs.... it looks so "pimped out" with the satin pug and the shorthair finish anyway, LOL. If they hadn't closed the jazz club in Portland I would have worn that hat out to the club.

Thanks very much, buddy! I feel the same way.

It's not vintage, it's not custom... but I really like it anyway, for the same reasons you posted! And a big plus to having Mike put in a nice sweat is, now it even fits like it was a custom... for a meager $25! The old sweat was some sort of man made material, and the black color on it was disintegrating for some reason and it would leave greasy looking black marks on my forehead. Problem solved, and then some, with the new sweat.

Half-price Pauly should be shipping my size 7 Christys' Bowler. I should have it by Wednesday, May 11th. His quality is fine. Evidently, he buys inventory from stores and wholesales them over the internet. I can't wait for package that's due to arrive filled with "London goodness". ;) :D

They can still occasionally pull one off. I have a Stetson Lamont made within the last ten years or so that's a great felt with a nice finish.
