Hi all,

I'm new here, and I've been wanting to aquire a good hat for a little while now. I had one that I really liked that I got in Scotland, but lost it. very sad.

anyway, I live in Chattanooga and went down to the Wormser store (I pass it every day on the way home). alas, it ALWAYS says "closed". not "out of business" or anything like that, just "closed". I call and no answer. I first went down a few weeks ago and havent seen a change.

any ideas? I'm thinking of asking the little convenience store next to it what happened, but wondering if anyone around here knows anything.

thanks and take care.

Bob

Hi bobby & welcome to TFL, good to see another VOL here, I am just down the road in Knox-patch. I never made it over there to the Wormser store. Let us know if you get further info.

Cheers,

RB

He is online as well as Art who both can send out a conformer to get your exact fit. If you don't want to spend that kind of money then I would get a soft tape measure and measure your head circumference. Do it a couple times to make sure it comes out the same. There are awesome deals to be had on Akubras right now.

Gosh, I hate to hear the Wormser store may be closing. I haven't been in there in over a year but I noticed the inventory is still there. I wanted to go there and see if he had any hat boxes for sale. The inventory was pretty much new hats like Bailey. The store was owned by an Oriental couple. He did have some antiques in there but I believe they were just for display. I will start keeping an eye out for them. But hang around the lounge for a while and you will find a better place to buy your hats.

it turns out my fears were unfounded...they were just on a month-long vacation. so I got my hat today, and now I'm officially a little cooler (or warmer, I guess)

hat store in chattanooga?

I might stop by there next time I'm in town. I live in Georgia, but my Marine Reserve unit (Mike Battery 3/14) drills in Chattanooga. Is it a good store? Can you tell me anything about it? thanks

I'm still new to the world of hats so I wouldnt be able to say how good it is, but to my eye, there seems to be a good selection. I dont know what brands are good, etc tho.

I got a relatively cheap one to start out with...ubi brand fedora. in my enthusiasm I went for looks over fit, and got one a little too small. I figured I could live with it, but the wife set me straight. so I guess I'll go back today and see if I can swap it for something else. the folks that run the place are asian, so there's a little bit of a language barrier, but they're very friendly.

to bring a close to the story: all's well that ends well. the low-price brand (ubi) apparently doesnt go up to 7-1/2. so I ended up with a Stetson. not exactly sure of the style, but I'd call it a casual fedora, olive green. not exactly what I was looking for at first, but I like it very much, and it should keep my short-haired head warm this winter (assuming it gets cold eventually)

I am glad to hear they are not closing. Wormser has modern brands like Stetson and Bailey, and some wool hats. A few straws and some western, if I remember correct. They really don't have anything outstanding but its a good place for someone new to hats to go and get a feel for what certain hats look like. I know I will be going there in the next week or two to look for hat boxes.

their hours

I went their earlier. It's located on Broad Street between 8th and 7th streets. I didn't get to go in, because it was closed for the day. They're closed Sunday and Monday, open until 5:00PM on Tuesday-Friday, and until 4:00PM on Saturdays (if I remember correctly). The reason why i said their location is because I found an address for them somewhere that said "737 Market Street: but they are really on Broad Street (the other side of the block). Anyway, hopefully someday I'll get a chance to actually go in!

Welcome to another TN hat wearer. I'm up near Knoxburg way. And yes, today is the official wear-a-bag-over-your-head day for all Vol fans. It's been a very bad year and chances are good we're in for a couple of bad years until someone yet-to-be-named can right the ship!

But welcome to the board. And oh yeah, they like pictures here.

bump!

hey, I just went by where the Wormser store used to be, and it is defintely closed. All of the hats they had went to a store called Downtown Mart on Market Street (next to Giorgio's Men's Warehouse). All they had were expensive, low-quality modern hats, and maybe a very few half-decent actual Wormser brand hats, which were all overpriced (a decent open-road/campdraft looking hat in 7 5/8 was the only decent hat of all the ones there). Sorry, Wormer store is gone!
