What do you guys think about this hat guide on YouTube?

Hey, Adrian; I like the intent and the positive presentation, a LOT! Most of his ideas seem right on. He just needs to go to a full line hat retailer to find one hat that he feels does his ears justice. He's overly self conscious about those "dishes," though, IMO.

It's pretty clear he's not a hat guy. Look at the state of his brim... That is the problem with most cheap high street hats, they don't hold their shape and they always look to big. He is pulling it way to far down like you said.
Most of the younger men either pull it down to much or put them on the back of their head...

The ear thing is just like you all said the fit. My husband has big ears and I figured out what he found comfortable to wear.

I do like the idea and the way he speaks about the confidence it needs to wear a hat.

This is a pick up artist's trick. Wear something that gets you noticed even outrageous like a hat that no one else will wear to show you are confident. I knew a guy in Japan that wore a Bright Red Bowler and he did very well with meeting ladies. The hat started conversations.

That's awful. Terrible, even! Who would do such a thing?! :eyebrows:

I'd go as far as saying that he's not a hat guy because he lacks confidence. He's more comfortable hiding in his hat. Perhaps he'll grow out of it. The truth is that the right combination of crown and brim will enhance his appearance overall by providing balance to his ears and nose.

IMO, there's nothing wrong with the way he looks now, but he'd look better hatted.

shhhhhhhh
Given away secrets
In a sea of baseball caps, that always seemed to work with the ladies.
doesn't have to be garish just a little different. cowboy in a region where not usually worn, porkpie etc
yep, the first time you put on one that fits well is amazing, rather than those wallyworld hats in two different sizes.
Too small or too large

I liked the guy's hat, he obviously wanted a comical, goofy look & he pulled it off well,

The video ? just another youtube psuedo 'how to' wasting viewers time. With over 648,OOO subs the dude sure has a lot of fans but is that due to the high quality of his vids or the low quality of his followers ? I think I can guess.

Alpha M is a great guy. However what I don't like about this specific video is that he only thinks of hats as a fashion accessory, like a fez. In no way he talks about the functional use of a hat. Also the modern hats he showed are not real hats and don't offer any functional protection from the elements. Wearing a hat solely for fashion won't be in fashion for very long. There's a reason why wool toques are still worn today.

Also why are trousers so skinny, especially at the cuff. That will be another debate.

He has a lot of confidence and people like confidence. Alpha M is really fashion forward.

I prefer tradition and classical mens style. That's why I'm usually on The Lounge rather than StyleForum, AskAndy, etc.

There's the million dollar quote right there. That's exactly right. I would go INSANE with an extra large hat fitting around my ear, and if this were at all about function, he'd simply do what I'd do... get a hat that fits! His crooked brim isn't about being unable to tame a cheap hat... it's the look he's going for, reinforcing Adrian's observation that this is about a something trendy and not long term fashion. The sad part is, function and form can go together. But that seems to get lost these days.

Agreed, function and fashion can go together. There's a reason why a full break on men's trousers is considered classic. It's both functional and looks good (stylish).

Let me explain, a full break protects the shoe and the inside of the shoe from rain, snow, and the elements. Also a full break is the most stylish because your socks don't show when standing and walking, therefore you look taller. Same thing happens when you sit down. Only around 2-3 inches of sock will show, therefore your legs will look longer.

Well that's what I think anyways.
