A while back, we burned up a nacelle because our MX people decided to DMI an anti-ice valve in the open position... needless to say, after about 30 hours of running with engine A/I on, the nacelle was ready for replacement and the only one available was in Rome from Allitalita, which took 4 days to get to where we were in Dubai..

I'll bet you didn't plan for that in your number crunching!

Uhh.. Nope.. can only plan/test for so much.. Umm.. testing "interesting" maintenance techniques could be a full time job that goes on forever with parts never getting certified

Chino has a great air museum that I just recently visited... even got a back stage tour of their workshops where they fix up old birds.. the highlight of the tour was the F8F Bear Cat in Navy Blue.. I about had an orgasmic experience when I got to touch it!

BTW... Been playing the bass for 25 years, never anywhere near good enough to be a pro I guess, and I can't even read music (not sight read at least).. I would love to be able to eek out a living playing music.

I fully understand the near orgasmic feeling, I felt the same way when I touched the "Glacier Girl" P-38 this past September. What a beautiful aircraft!

I never learned to sight read either, in fact I can barely read music. I played by ear, and never had a problem keeping up with musicians who had degrees.

Making a living playing music isn't as easy now as it was then (I toured mainly in the late 80's and early 90's.) Club owners can hire any schmuck off the street to do karaoke night for a fraction of what a band costs. Life on the road is rougher than it looks; they say for each year on the road you age five, and believe me, they are right. Plus you get to live in confined spaces with a bunch of rude, crude and socially unacceptable musicians, get ripped off by every third club owner and booking agent, and it's rough to keep a relationship healthy when you're away from home. I don't miss it one bit. Plus, if you factor in the cost of equipment, time in rehearsal, travel time, and travel expenses you barely eek out a living, or least that was my experience.

But, I'm moving on to a LPN or nursing career as soon as my kids are old enough to not notice/care if I'm not home as much. Probably elder care. I've had my fill of paper.

I'm a professional photographer, writer and historian.

I graduated in commercial photography in the early 80s and since then have worked for both newspapers and local government.

I'm currently in charge of the photographic service and collections of a local government archive and local studies library (part of a public libraries and heritage department). I do architectural and record photography, reprographics, historical research and exhibitions. I also write for various magazines and a local newspaper.

I am presently working on becoming a published author in the 'sword and sorcery' genre, hence my affinity with 'Two Gun Bob', aka Robert E. Howard, creator of Conan the Barbarian.

I'm a bit of a WWII armchair general and amateur historian.. is that a re-enactment group, or was that posed for a particular magazine? Looks like Waffen SS, correct?

It's from a publicity shoot I did a few years ago for a re-enactment group here in England. We spent a morning creating various setups and this is one such shot.

They portrayed a unit of the Infantry Regiment Großdeutschland (literally Greater Germany Regiment), which was an élite German Heer combat unit which saw action during World War II.

Großdeutschland is sometimes mistakenly perceived as being a part of the Waffen-SS, whereas it was actually a Heer unit. It was a very well equipped unit and after expansion to become the Großdeutschland Division, was the best equipped division in the Wehrmacht, receiving equipment before all other units (including Waffen-SS units). The regiment served in the campaigns in France and the Low Countries in 1940, then served exclusively on the Eastern Front. It was annihilated near Pillau in May 1945

Yeah the collar tabs threw me off.. and I couldn't see the GD on the shoulder boards.. I read Guy Sajer's accounts of his fighting in that division.. I think they saw action at Kursk along side the SS Liebstandarte.. what a battle!

My wife is an LPN, I'm an archivist. I know what you mean about the paper....it can get dull sometimes. Do you have an MLS? I worked as a photo librarian for about 7 years before getting my degree.
