Too cool... My son is quite interested in the field. Is it hard to find work after one gets his requisite PhD?

btw.. I live right near you, we're at 67th Ave/Jomax, just east of Peoria.

I Go to school in the morning and then head out to work in the afternoon. I work in a public library as a messenger clerk. Most of the day I deal with books and help patrons find books.

Thank goodness, I got a new job!

I was beginning to get nervous, I had been unemployed a whole two weeks.
I start tomorrow!
Being an admissions person for a white-collar trade school.
It will be swell as it is half a mile from home, pays twice as much as I have been getting the past four years, and has full benefits (I haven't had those in four years either!).
Of course I am still playing as well, and that is actually getting busy... so I would say two-thirds administrator, one-third jazz musician as before...
:)

Congrats miss 1929!!:eusa_clap

It's great that you still play and do the day gig...I am dying to start playing music again but there never seems to be enough time in the day.

well, I would have to shoot myself if I stopped playing, and yet it can't possibly pay the mortgage! Luckily, I mostly play weekends so no conflicts to speak of...

I did used to just play for a living but once we bought Casa Aguilar there was no way...

First day was fun, though!

As of this coming Friday, I am down one corporate job and up two part time positions.

I work in the tasting room for Montinore Estate, take contract work for Lavender's Green (a former employer who begged me to come back) and am expanding my own sewing business due to demand, which will include offering sewing lessons in my shiny new studio (hoorah!) :D

.. if it all goes caput, I can always go back to the corporate job. [huh]

I play the ukulele and the upright bass for a living. Now if the question was "what do you do to make money to pay the bills" I'd have a different answer!

I just took another part-time job for the summer in an eye doctor's office as a sort of file runner or very unqualified technician. It's mostly just amusing when people ask me what I'm in school for, and I answer:

"Film study and production with a minor in design art, and my honors thesis is on independent production through web-based media."

Yeah, then I get the WTF facelol

My wife is an LPN, I'm an archivist. I know what you mean about the paper....it can get dull sometimes. Do you have an MLS? I worked as a photo librarian for about 7 years before getting my degree.

No - I actually don't have my undergrad yet either - I sort of found it both impossible and semi-useless to get one after having children. My husband does the same sort of work - he says we're "book monkeys" although I'm a bit more specialized. I'm also a file, blueprint, and photo monkey lol

Sadly, I sell Vintage Stuff, but it's been kinda slow lately. But that's only a 3rd of our total income. We also have an Interior Plant Maintenance Business (which has decreased in size by 2/3 since 911), and the DH works for a Funeral Home. Which is part of the reason for our name "cemetarian".the other part is because as a genealogist we spent LOTS of time in old cemeteries.......when we had the time to do that sort of thing.

Most likely i have already replied to this thread, but this place has gotten so huge, i can't find anything anymore....lol

How a nice girl with so much potential ended up in a job she is so completely unsuited for i couldn't tell you....I could name 20 jobs off the top of my head that i would happily declare my dream job,but i am currently working as a banker, ie; " yes Sir, your account balance is really 13 cents":p

It only lasted a week... and it wasn't much fun either! Back to the hunt.
