What Do They All Think Of Your Vintage?

Nobody ever notices the denim - no idea why, given the amount I own! - but the vintage jackets are 'Craig's thing' and they're cool about it (even if they're happy with their Goretex jackets). If somebody asks about the cost, I always point out that I don't have many vices: don't smoke, don't drink much, so a splurge on a jacket once a year or so isn't a massive deal. Also, people don't know what an A-2 or a half-belt is; the only thing they pick up is either the weight of them (my hairdresser is always moaning about that) or the smell of them - which they love. I have to say, not even my Irvin hasn't attracted 'Where's your spitfire?' comments - it's a stylish and cool jacket.

"...a splurge on a jacket once a year or so..." Ah, the language of addiction.

To tell the truth, I'm the last person to talk. I'm going out tomorrow and spending $1500.00 on a guitar that I've been chasing around for the last ten years. One just became available and it's, "Um, Honey, the weirdest thing just happened..." "And I swear I'll never want..."

Not sure what you mean RP.

Are there still Goths?

Good question, I avoid major cities these days so I have no idea... but when I first checked online to replace a leather jacket, I made the mistake of typing "leather shop" into Google, and discovered that there are things that cannot be erased from the mind once seen. There are people who sell bulletproof made to order medieval leather underwear.

I think the Goth scene is alive and kickin'. There are different tiers. You have your high school crowd and the people who take it well into adulthood. They have goth clubs and such for adults.

Ok. I rarely go out so I don't see much. I thought Goths were a 1990's thing. I see a few earnest kids inspired by punk, but not much else.

Of course, we must never forget the quintessential Goth seniors:

When I was young I worked with a girl who was Goth to the extreme. Only wore black including makeup and nail polish. We had a tradition in the workplace when someone went on holiday they got a bath in all sorts of crap including tomato sauce, corn flakes and anything else we could add. As she was so "out there" and a special case we covered her in white talcum powder instead.

I should add that I have received positive comments about my vintage wear in the past but less and less as I get older.

That long term chase thing can be so satisfying when it is acquired. I've wanted a certain style hat for about 45 years. I had not been able to find a good example until fairly recently, and now the perfect situation has come along. I'll have it in about two months :)

This is my experience. My wife doesn't like the feel/rigidity of my HH jackets, but she doesn't notice the vintage styling.
My Mrs does not mind my civvy jackets such as my Teamster, but she hates my badged up A2s, (plain)B3, and ANJ4 simply because they are flying gear and I am not in a plane, well, thats her excuse:rolleyes:. At first she also disliked my choice of hats such as my snap brim trilby/fedora but is now used to them as I wear them so much. I would not be seen dead in a trucker style or baseball cap.
Generally as has been mentioned, vintage styles can blend in with modern providing you don't go for the extreme styles.
Cheers J.

I know I have a problem, I'm just waiting for my gf to stage an intervention...
You could always try and get your G/F a job at The Aero Leather Clothing Company, then she can feed you, your leather addiction, heavily discounted. Or, she might even learn to make the jackets, then she would be inundated with work, heck, just the Lounge alone would keep her busy for life.
