Met a longtime business friend in town for the wk. Another late night of Knob Creek Single Barrel 120. As Yogi Berra said once, it got late awful early! Lookin' to meet up with him again on Thurs night.

Last night after my lovely wife and I shared a bottle of chianti (our toddler was very upset that we weren't sharing our tea with him), I decided to set down and enjoy a scotch and soda while we watched an episode of The Blacklist. Perhaps it was the effect of the wine but I may have poured more than my usual share of scotch, and to borrow from Hurricane Jack, I found that it got late awful early. Coincidentally, the ease of staying up late with good company was the topic of conversation last night as my wife and reminisced about some friends of ours that have that effect. Every time we get together I know that we are in for a late night. It is inevitable. And, largely because we were watching The Blacklist I found myself thinking that sharing dinner, drinks, and listening to records with James Spader would have much the same fantastic result. It seems to me, based on some of his interviews, that it has the potential to be an evening well spent. There was a specific interview with Mr. Spader on one of the late night shows where I learned that he possesses a passion for vinyl and has a habit of blasting his favorite tunes late into a Saturday night. It seems that Mr. Spader would be a fine fellow to spend an evening with, but on the other hand I reckon that he would make a tiresome neighbor.

Not last night, but just now: Dark and Stormy. Gosling's Black Seal (what else?), with Seagram's Ginger Ale. I'd have preferred Buffalo Rock or Barritt's, but Publix was out of both.

I should have read this before I did my web search on a fog cutter based on your short mention of it in the "dinner" thread.

Always hard to do, but how would you describe the flavor - does it compare to something, does one or do a few ingredients dominate? I find the orgeat syrup and sherry the most intriguing ingredients as they are the most unexpected.

And, yes, just from reading about it I can feel the punch it packs.

I don't know what to compare it to and would not say that any one ingredient stands out. It is sweet, but not too sweet, goes well with dinner, and is fun.

Just got home from a Father's Day celebration at my favorite Saloon where drinks were half price for all fathers. But Oak Brewing's Lily Ale is pretty good for a summertime drink. It has a nice after taste of oranges & vanilla.

My daughter's took me to Mexican Villa last night and I got to try the new house-branded beer (brewed by Piney River Brewing out of Bucyrus, Missouri). It was a fairly light lager so I will probably go back the the long-neck Buds that you are "supposed" to drink when you are at the 'Villa. I think you are supposed the call this place the "Villa" as it's not really Mexican (but is still good and a fun place to visit). Been around a long time -- although I do miss being able to select the juke box tunes from the table.
