What cigar (or pipe) did you smoke today?

Smoking my fav Virginia blend from the local store in a Nording pipe. Explain to me why I can't smoke cigars? I can't stand the aftertaste!! I see a lot of guys that do both pipes and cigars. They are both tobacco and I like tobacco :)!?!? They taste completely different to me. Have any of you experienced the same thing?? I love smoking a pipe and I like a variety of tobaccos depending on my mood but can't do the cigar thing. Not that I really want to switch over I just don't understand it can't be just the casings (flavoring) as I like pipe tobaccos that are not cased too??? Do they use a different part of the tobacco plant to make pipe tobacco or a different strain of tobacco???

Thanks
Kk

I smoke both so my opinion might not be pertainent here. ;)
They are just different forms as far as I am concerned.
To go one further, I save the cut ends from my cigars and use them as pipe tobacco. I don't notice that much difference. [huh]
The difference might be that with a pipe the tobacco does not directly touch your lips. Maybe the wrapper you are choosing for your cigars is what you don't like the taste of. I don't like the Cameroon but I like the Maduro and EMS wrappers.

I smoked pipes for 15 years before becoming a cigar smoker. Now I rarely smoke pipes anymore because I do not like the lack of complexity in the flavor of the smoke and I find that many of the aromatics that I used to enjoy taste very artifical.

Cigars require one to develop one's "palette" much like wines or single malt scotch. It takes a while and one has to "work up to it" by (usually) starting with mild bodied cigars and gradually adding more complex and full-bodied blends. As strange as it may sound, it helps to approach it more as a hobby than a habit. Of course it often becomes an obession after that! :D

I am officially addicted, in the last two months or so I went from having a 35 cigar humidor to converting my unused wine fridge into a humidor.

A liter?! Holy crimony! Send it over to me. I'll finish it. ;):p
I hope that was an HdM for that exotic little island as those produced elsewhere are hit and miss. ;)
Go pick up a Macallan. :D

No Macallan here. The Glenmorangie was the most exotic choice available. The rest were Glenlivets, Glenfiddich and several Johnny Walkers. I've had all of those except Johnny Blue and I didn't really want to drop $150 for a bottle of that.

The HdM was a petit robusto for the same island you refer to.

I went to a cigar shop today to buy a cutter, but the guy there had none to sell. Fortunately, the was a better stocked cigar shop across the street. What kind of cigar shop doesn't have a cutter to sell? One in the Bahamas I suppose. :eusa_doh:

Smart move. Blue ain't worth it. Glenfiddich would have been my choice out of the other three. ;)
Nice. You didn't have an Hoyo de Dogrocket then. :p
I suppose a cigar shop in an area where they bite the end off of cigars.;)
Enjoy the trip. :eusa_clap

P.S. You could bring me back a box or two. :p

Today a La Aroma de Cuba Edicion Especial and an island Bolivar on the beach then after dinner a La Traviata maduro on the balcony.

I'd be happy to bring back a box or two, but the prices here are through the roof. I'm sure we can both do much better purchasing them elsewhere. Also, I've seen people pulled into the US Customs' little room at the airport. I don't really relish the idea of seeing what that little room looks like on the inside.

I understand that doing that works pretty well. Any advice on how to do it andx what settings to use?

Right now I don't have it powered on because the room temperature is 65-67 f but on the wine fridge I have the lowest setting would be my 65 f. I have a tupperware in there as well with kitty litter crystals (100% silica) which has held my humidity at 65-66 the entire time I have had it setup. (of course you can use beads but I wanted to keep this a cheap project, the wine fridge was $5 at a yard sale) I store my smokes in old cigar boxes but there are a few vendors online that make custom Spanish Cedar shelves for them now.

PSD4 and a Montecristo petit edmundo on the beach this afternoon, the latter with a gin and tonic. Tonight a RyJ short churchill is on the agenda for after dinner.

La Vieja Habana maduro - Robusto

This is a inexpensive line put out by Drew Estate. Even though they are mixed filler I like them quite a bit and hey, can't beat $2 a stick! :D

I figured they would be expensive in a touristy area.:eusa_doh:
I wouldn't want you to see that room either. I understand it looks kind of like the inside of the local IRS office.
I am going to have to get some more PSD4s in. :eusa_doh:
