What are your first hat memories?

Mine are of my grand dads hats from my early childhood { around 7-8 y\o }. Being a farmer, he always had a work straw and a 'going to town' straw.
Although these are not his hats they look as close to the ones he had that I could find.
Post your thoughts and pics so we can see what lead you down the Fedora Road !

Up until I was in my teens, I thought men wore hats all the time (never thought about it.)

My dad own a black Stetson cowboy hat he's had from the late 70's and only wears on special occasions, and a straw cowboy hat. Men look weird without them.

My mother's father, my Grandpa Pickett, wore a big black hat, I think it was a Stetson, all the time. He wore it indoors. the only time I think he took the hat off was at the dinner table and probably when he went to bed.

Most all men wore hats when I was a kid; my father wore a Cagney-type fedora, people thought he was a cop.

Mother wore a few of those 40's style women's hats, pillbox, etc. She looked like a movie star to me.

I wanted a cowboy hat and, when I was 6 years old, my favorite aunt and uncle bought me a red cowboy hat. I wore it all through my childhood, thought it was the coolest thing.

Those are my very first hat images.

when I was little, I had a straw cowboy hat, the kind with the red plastic sheriff star on the front. Wore it all the time.

My first hat emeories were probably from my grandfather. He wore a straw similar to your grandfather RBH. I mean he really wore it. I think he had a few in different colors. I remember my grandmother always telling him to wear one of his good felt hats instead of that old straw. He always left with the straw. :p ;)

For as long as I can remember, my grandmother wore a pith helmet when working in the yard or garden.

My great Uncle Bob wore a western something like this one. I dont remember it being a Open Road but it had that kind of shape.

My first hat memories aren't so much about a specific hat, since my grandfather and all the uncles wore fedoras most of the time. My earliest memory is the scent of Vitalis in my Gandfathers hat. We all know how a hat can get smell wise, but that scent from those years ago stays with me to this day......

When I was knee high to a grasshopper...

And father was posted out to India, I have fond memories of bathtime with mother up at the hill station in front of a big log fire, and she would use father's campaign pith helmet as a bath!! Those were the days....;)

Like Dinerman,my first hat memories are of a childs straw hat.I used to have a kid's cowboy outfit with straw hat and bandana.
The first hat on an adult was of older gentlemen on our block that wore fedoras to work. That was in the late 60's.

My Grandfather was the first person I knew that wore a hat, a brown fedora.
Whenever me, my brothers and cousins showed up at Grandma's house on a Saturday to run around and play he would doff his hat and out he would go !
My father never had a dress hat, but since he was a policeman he always had his hat in the house and I always wore it too.
