Two of my firsts, sometime between age 2 and 4. Don't have either, but I do have the western shirt, and both my boys wore it at Christmas when they each hit the right age. Frank

Those look Great Frank @frussell , Super Pictures and Memories ! My Numero Uno I was probably 1 and it was a straw western probably bought at the Zoo before the pony ride (though I'd been on horses and mules before), then my supply of cheap western felts I wore constantly until I was 7-8 I think and I was given an old Hat of my Grandfather's I think , it was there , anyway , and not in his rotation . There are pictures somewhere . Unlike today , I was put on the back of my Grandfather's team of Mammoth Mules (Kit and Kate) (a Jack , and a Jennie) , Kit always wanted to take a bite out of me . I remember it was like being on top of the house they seemed so tall .

Did McDonald's start using real meat again , or is that from days gone LONG By ? No White Castle's here , this is Krystal country . I eat 7 at a time and want more . Used to be a place here called Hamburger Haven , those old ladies could beat any of them .

Nobody knows, and Ronald ain't tellin'. :D

...No White Castle's here...
None here in southern California either; my wife and I have to get our fix when we visit her relatives in Chicago. White Castle has tried to expand into California once or twice in the past, but...well, Californians are a strange bunch who can get pretty selective when it comes to which fast foods they'll poison themselves with. Back in the mid-80s I dragged a friend to the only White Castle location in southern California a week after it opened simply because I had a feeling it wouldn't last long. As we sat down and began to eat, we heard a middle-aged mother at an adjoining table comment, in a rather loud voice, "My God! That tastes like baby [expletive for something you'd find in a used diaper]!" She had taken one bite. After she made her comment she, her friend, and their tribe of children, got up, threw away four trays full of food, and left, presumably to find the nearest McDonald's. o_O That particular White Castle closed a couple of months later, and I haven't seen one here since.

And then you go to the South and have the Krystal vs. White Castle argument.

Sorry Bob. We really should get back to First Hats. Don and I kinda jacked the thread.

Hey Don - Mr. Miller call you yet?

Like others here, I collected all kinds of hats when I was a kid - some wonderful hats including vintage bowlers and a top hat. All are long gone now.

In 1982, I visited the newly opened Epcot Center and came home with a wool Indy fedora. While I've spent most my adult life wearing a uniform, that wool Indy was the hat I wore in civilian clothes when I needed one - rain, snow, etc. - and after being crushed, bent, & moving countless times, nearly 35 years later, it is still hanging in there. I have not worn it in a long time, but I still have it (packed away some where). I think it cost close to $40 or $50 back then (which was a fortune to me), but it turned out to be a pretty good investment.

I eventually added a department store fur felt and an LL Bean Stetson to the line-up - those led to a too small vintage Open Road from an antique store. And all my fellow addicts and enablers know what happened after that.

My first hat was a 1950s stetson that belonged to a family friend. Well, two of them. They were very tiny, and they fit me perfectly when I was in 4th grade. Over the years (i don't remember if my constant wearing of them caused them to get trashed, or if they were on their last legs anyway) they were in rough shape. I donated one to my drama club as a costume piece (it went to a production of Guys N Dolls and it looked ridiculously tiny on one gangster's head! he had a massive head to begin with, and a huge mop of curly hair, so the fedora looked more like a fascinator!). The other was missing its ribbon and sweatband, so I steamed it into a new shape, carefully decorated it with vintage chantilly lace and ostrich plumes, and gave it to a lolita goth friend of mine.
