nice job

Root, nice find for the lyrics. I've never heard the words to "Moonlight Serenade" before. You always come up with the greatest stuff, brother.

Impressed,

I'm a 1/4 Irish and this song has been a favorite in my family and those long gone.

"Oh Danny Boy"

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

Here is an old Irish song that I like sang by Bing Crosby. I have it on 78rpm and it's a rather funny song!

"Who threw the overalls in Mrs. Murphy's chowder"

Mrs. Murphy gave a party
Just about a week ago.
Everything was plentiful,
The Murphys, they're not slow.
They treated us like gentlemen;
We tried to act the same,
If it weren't for what happened...
Well, it was a doggone shame.
When Mrs. Murphy dished the chowder out,
She fainted on the spot;
She found a pair of overalls
At the bottom of the pot.
McGinty, he got roaring mad,
His eyes were bulging out,
He jumped onto the piano
And loudly he did shout:

"Who threw the overalls
In Mrs. Murphy's chowder?"
Nobody spoke, so he
Shouted all the louder.
"It's a rotten trick that's true,
I can lick the drip that threw
The overalls in Mrs. Murphy's chowder."

They dragged the pants from out the soup
And laid them on the floor;
Each man swore upon his life,
He'd ne'er seen them before.
They were plastered up with mortar
And had patches on the knee,
They'd had their many ups and downs
As we could plainly see.
And when Mrs. Murphy, she came to,
She b'gan to cry and pout,
She'd put them in the wash that day
And forgot to pull them out.
McGinty, he excused himself
For what he said that night,
So we put music to the words
And sang with all our might:

"Who threw the overalls
In Mrs. Murphy's chowder?"
Nobody spoke, so we
Shouted all the louder.
"It's a rotten trick that's true,
And we'll lick the drip that threw
The overalls in Mrs. Murphy's chowder."

I wish I could take credit to Moonlight Serenade but, that wasn't me. I gave the words to "Bounce Me Brother with the Solid Four" "Moon Ray" "They Say" and "I found a Million Dollar Baby in a 5/10 cense store".

I have a copy of original sheet music to Moonlight Serenade with Glenn on the cover!

One of my favourites right now - it's so happy and energetic! :)

I like the version by the Wiggles best! :p Whatever else you might think of children's entertainers, those guys are very clever musicians.

Hoop-De-Do, Hoop-De-Do
I hear a polka and my troubles are through
Hoop-De-Do, Hoop-De-De
This kind of music is like heaven to me
Hoop-De-Do, Hoop-De-Do
It's got me higher than a kite
Hand me down my soup and fish, I am gonna get my wish
Hoop-De-Doin' it tonight

(When there's a trombone playin', ra-ta-da-da-da)
I get a thrill, I always will
(When there's a concertina stretchin' out a mile)
I always smile 'cause that's my style
When there's a fiddle in the middle oh it really is a riddle how he
plays a tune so sweet
Plays a tune so sweet that I could die
Lead me to the floor and hear me yell for more
'cause I'm a Hoop-Dee-Doin' kind of guy

(Orchestral Break)

When there's a fiddle in the middle oh it really is a riddle how he
plays a tune so sweet
Plays a tune so sweet that I could die
(Orchestral Break)

Hoop-De-Do, (Hoop-De-Do)
Hoop-De-Doo, (Hoop-De-Do)
I hear a polka
(All)
and my troubles are through)
Hoop-De-De, (Hoop-Dee-Do)
Hoop-De-De, (Hoop-De-De)
This kind of music
(All)
is like heaven to me
Hoop-De-Do (Hoop-De-Do)
Hoop-De-Do (Hoop-De-Do)
It's got me higher than a kite
I'm in clover, I'm in bloom
When I'm dancin' give me room
Hoop-de-doin' it with all of my might

(Doris)
Rain may fall and snow may come
Nothin's gonna stop me from
Hoop-De-Doin' it tonight

Oh my Perry Como, I love this song even if its early 1950's:

Papa Loves Mambo

< instrumental opening >

Unh!

Papa loves mambo!
Mamma loves mambo!
Look at ?¢‚ǨÀúem sway with it,
Gettin?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ so gay with it,
Shoutin?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ Ol?ɬ© with it, Wow!

Unh!

Papa loves mambo! ( Papa loves mambo! )
Mamma loves mambo! ( Mamma loves mambo! )
Papa does great with it,
Swings like a gate with it,
He loses weight with it, Now!

He goes to, she goes fro,
He goes fast, she goes slow,
He goes left, an?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ she goes right!

Papa?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s lookin?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ for Mamma,
But Mamma is nowhere in sight!

Unh!

Papa loves mambo!
Mamma loves mambo!
Havin?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ their fling again,
Younger than spring again,

Unh!

Papa loves mambo! ( Papa loves mambo! )
Mamma loves mambo! ( Mamma loves mambo! )
Don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t play the rumba an?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t play the samba,

Unh!

Papa loves mambo!
Mamma loves mambo!

< instrumental break >

Papa loves mambo!
Mamma loves mambo!

He goes to, she goes fro',
He goes fast, she goes slow,
He goes left, an?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ she goes right!

Papa?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s lookin?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ for Mamma,
But Mamma is nowhere in sight!

Unh!

Papa loves mambo! ( Papa loves mambo! )

I know this not really out of the Golden Era, but it alwas reminds me of it:

Mack the Knife

Oh, the shark, babe, has such teeth, dear
And it shows them pearly white
Just a jackknife has old MacHeath, babe
And he keeps it ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ ah ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ out of sight.

Ya know when that shark bites, with his teeth, babe
Scarlet billows start to spread
Fancy gloves, though, wears old MacHeath, babe
So there?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s nevah, nevah a trace of red.

Now on the sidewalk ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ uuh, huh ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ whoo ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ sunny mornin?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ uuh, huh
Lies a body just oozin' life ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ eeek!
And someone?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s sneakin' ?¢‚ǨÀúround the corner
Could that someone be Mack the Knife?

A-there's a tugboat ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ huh, huh, huh ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ down by the river don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢tcha know
Where a cement bag?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s just a'droopin' on down
Oh, that cement is just, it's there for the weight, dear
Five'll get ya ten old Macky?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s back in town.

Now, d'ja hear ?¢‚ǨÀúbout Louie Miller? He disappeared, babe
After drawin' out all his hard-earned cash
And now MacHeath spends just like a sailor
Could it be our boy's done somethin' rash?

Now ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ Jenny Diver ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ ho, ho ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ yeah ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ Sukey Tawdry
Ooh ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown
Oh, the line forms on the right, babe
Now that Macky?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s back in town.

Aah ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ I said Jenny Diver ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ whoa ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ Sukey Tawdry
Look out to Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown
Yes, that line forms on the right, babe
Now that Macky?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s back in town ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶

Look out ?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ old Macky is back!!

Another great and vintage one is

Straighten up and fly right

A buzzard took the monkey for a ride in the air
The monkey thought that everything was on the square
The buzzard tried to throw the monkey off his back
But the monkey grabbed his neck and said-- Now listen, Jack

Straighten up and fly right
Straighten up and fly right
Straighten up and fly right
Cool down, papa, don't you blow your top.
Ain't no use in divin'
What's the use in jivin'
Straighten up and fly right
Cool down, papa, don't you blow your top.

The buzzard told the monkey "You're chokin' me
Release your hold and I'll set you free
The monkey looked the buzzard right dead in the eye and said
Your story's touching but it sounds like a lie

Straighten up and fly right
Straighten up and stay right
Straighten up and fly right
Cool down, papa, don't you blow your top.

(instrumental interlude)

Straighten up and fly right
Straighten up and stay right
Straighten up and fly right
Cool down, papa, don't you blow your top.

Cole Porter...

I like Cole Porters 'Be a Clown'. It has a nice uplifting effect.

Act the fool, play the calf, and you'll always have the last laugh.
Wear the cap and the bells and you'll rate all the great swells.
If you become a doctor, folks'll face you with dread.
If you become a dentist, they'll be glad when you're dead.
You get a bigger hand if you can stand on your head.
Be a clown, be a clown, be a clown.
Be a clown, be a clown, all the world loves a clown.
Be a crazy buffoon and the 'demoiselles 'll all swoon.
Dress in huge baggy pants and you'll ride the road to romance.
A butcher or a baker, ladies never embrace.
A barber for a beau would be a social disgrace.
They'll come to call if you can fall on your face.
Be a clown, be a clown, be a clown.
Be a clown, be a clown, all the world loves a clown.
Be the poor silly ass and you'll always travel first class.
Give 'em quips, give 'em fun and they'll pay to say you're A-one.
If you become a farmer, you've the weather to buck.
If become a gambler you'll be struck with your luck.
But jack you'll never lack if you can quack like a duck.
Be a clown, be a clown, be a clown.

Cheers!

What could be more appropriate?

I'm Old Fashioned

I am not such a clever one
About the latest fads
I admit I was never one
Adored by local lads

Not that I ever try to be a saint
I'm the type that they classify as quaint

I'm old fashioned
I love the moonlight
I love the old fashioned things

The sound of rain
Upon a window pane
The starry song that april sings

This year's fancies
Are passing fancies
But sighing sighs holding hands
These my heart understands

I know I'm old fashioned
But I don't mind it
That's how I want to be
As long as you agree
To stay old fashioned with me

I'm old fashioned
But I don't mind it
That's how I want to be
As long as you agree
To stay old fashioned with me

It used to be Detroit....
In one way or another, I always have these songs in my mind:

Harbor Lights

I saw the harbor lights
They only told me we were parting
The same old harbor lights that once brought you to me
I watched the harbor lights
How could I help if tears were starting
Goodbye to tender nights beside the silv'ry sea

I long to hold you near and kiss you just once more
But I was on the ship and you were on the shore
Now I know lonely nights
For all the while my heart is whisp'ring
Some other harbor lights will steal your love from me

(Instrumental Interlude)

I long to hold you near and kiss you just once more
But I was on the ship and you were on the shore
Now I know lonely nights
For all the while my heart is whisp'ring
Some other harbor lights will steal your love from me

And then there's this -

Let's Misbehave
We're all alone; no chaperone can get our number...
The world's in slumber; let's misbehave.

There's something wild about you, child, that's so contangious...
Let's be outrageous; let's misbehave.

When Adam won Eve's hand, he wouldn't stand for teasin'...
He didn't care about those apples out of season.

They say the spring means just one thing to little love birds.
We're not above birds; let's misbehave.

(Chorus)

If you'd be just so sweet and only meet your fate, dear,
It would be the great event of nineteen twenty-eight, dear.

(Chorus)

Let's Misbehave!

And one that has a somewhat "christmasy" feel to it:

It Happened In Sun Valley

Howdy folks, let’s go for a ride
Get your favorite one to sit by your side
Cuddle up in a sleigh, gitty up, Nellie Gray, and away we go
While you listen to the sleighbells ring
You‘re yodeling to your baby
You’ll feel nice and warm
No matter how cold it may be
Take a look at little Jack and Jill
They ski down a hill
That‘s a snowplough turn
And look, there’s a spill,
There‘s a spill on a hill
When you’re down it’s a thrill
To go up again
Ev’rybody ought to learn to ski
For that is how we first met
We were that Jack and Jill
That came down a hill
When I looked at you
My heart took a spill
Took a spill on a hill
It’s a thrill that I can’t forget...

It happened in Sun Valley
Not so very long ago
There were sunbeams in the snow
And a twinkle in your eyes
I remember oh! so clearly
That you nearly passed me by
Then it happened in Sun Valley
When you slipped and fell, and so did I...

(instrumental interlude)

It happened in Sun Valley
Not so very long ago
There were sunbeams in the snow
And I fell in love when I saw that
Twinkle in your eyes
I remember oh! so clearly
That you nearly passed me by
Then it happened in Sun Valley
When you slipped and fell, and so did I...

Now ev’ry year we go back and then
We recall that fall and that moment when
We were there on a hill
So we both take a spill
And we’re Jack and Jill
Again!

My favorite song in the whold world.

You Really Got a Hold On Me
by Smoky Robinson and the Miracles  *sigh*

I don't like you
But I love you
See that I'm always
thinking of
you
Oh, oh, oh,
you treat me badly
I love you madly
You've really
got a hold on me
You've really got a hold on me, baby

I don't want
you,
but I need you
Don't want to kiss you
but I need you
Oh, oh,
oh
you do me wring now
my love is strong now
You've really got a hold
on me
You've really got a hold on me, baby

I love you and all I want
you to do
is just hold me, hold me, hold me, hold me

I want to leave
you
don't want to stay here
Don't want to spend
another day
here
Oh, oh, oh, I want to split now
I just can quit now
You've really
got a hold on me
You've really got a hold on me, baby

I love you and
all I want you to do
is just hold me, hold me, hold me, hold
me

You've really got a hold on me
You've really got a hold on me

Vera Lynn-Wishing Will Make It So

Wishing will make it so
just keep on wishing and care will go
Dreamers tell us dreams come true
It's no mistake
Wishing are the dreams we dream when we're awake
The curtain of night will pass
If you are certain within your heart
So if you wish long enough wish strong enough
You will come to know
Wishing will make it so

Just imagine that you are
Back in childhood days
Wishing on the evening star
For a load of hay
It worked wonders for you then
Who knows why or how
Though your older try again
It can help you now

Wishing will make it so
just keep on wishing and care will go
Dreamers tell us dreams come true
It's no mistake
Wishing are the dreams we dream when we're awake
The curtain of night will pass
If you are certain within your heart
So if you wish long enough wish strong enough
You will come to know
Wishing will make it so

Oh,there are so many but here is one of my favorites:

Peggy Lee:"Why don´t you do right"

You had plenty money, 1922
You let other women make a fool of you
Why don't you do right, like some other men do?
Get out of here and get me some money too

You're sittin' down and wonderin' what it's all about
You ain't got no money, they will put you out
Why don't you do right, like some other men do?
Get out of here and get me some money too

If you had prepared twenty years ago
You wouldn't be a-wanderin' from door to door
Why don't you do right, like some other men do?
Get out of here and get me some money too

I fell for your jivin' and I took you in
Now all you got to offer me's a drink of gin
Why don't you do right, like some other men do?
Get out of here and get me some money too
Why don't you do right, like some other men do?
Like some other men do

Dean Martin had 2 of my favorites

One of the coolest and best dressed individuals of all time. He had style on par with Cary Grant, for god sakes he was Elvis' idol!

MEMORIES ARE MADE OF THIS - 17/02/1956
4 weeks at #1 - 16 weeks on chart

(Sweet, sweet memories you gave-a me)
(You can't beat the memories you gave-a me)

Take one fresh and tender kiss
Add one stolen night of bliss
One girl, one boy
Some grief, some joy
Memories are made of this

Don't forget a small moonbeam
Fold in lightly with a dream
Your lips and mine
Two sips of wine
Memories are made of this

Then add the wedding bells
One house where lovers dwell
Three little kids for the flavour
Stir carefully through the days
See how the flavour stays
These are the dreams you'll savour

With His blessings from above
Serve it generously with love
One man, one wife
One love through life
Memories are made of this
Memories are made of this

and my favorite of all time

:eusa_clap YOU BELONG TO ME (1952)
Watch the sunrise on a tropic isle
See the pyramids along the Nile
Just remember darlin', all the while
You belong to me

See the market place in old Algiers
Send me photographs and souvenirs
Just remember when a dream appears
You belong to me

I'll be so alone without you
Maybe you'll be lonesome too and blue
Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it's wet with rain
Just remember til you're home again
You belong to me

Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it's wet with rain
Just remember til you're home again
You belong to me

There are just too many lyrics that I like, this is one of them

I Worship You (C.Porter, 1929)

verse

Back in the days when Greece was mighty,
Men used to worship Aphrodite.
When the Phoenicians threw a party
The driest host drank a toast to Astarte.
The big Egyptians sacrifices
Were made to please the godess Isis.
And one of my most ancient vices
Is my worship of you.

refrain

I don't love you,dear
I swear it's true,
I don't love you dear,
I worship you.
Must I modify
My point of view?
Why should I be odd if I
Worship you?
On that sacred day
When you become mine
Somewhere, far away
I'll build you a shrine.
There I'll put you ,dear
And when I do,
I'll get on my knees
And worship you.

Isn't Cole Porter the best? :D :eusa_clap

You're The Top

(Verse 1)
At words poetic, I'm so pathetic
That I always have found it best,
Instead of getting 'em off my chest,
To let 'em rest unexpressed.
I hate parading my serenading
As I'll probably miss a bar,
But if this ditty is not so pretty,
At least it'll tell you how great you are.

(chorus 1)
You're the top! You're the Colosseum,
You're the top! You're the Louvre Museum,
You're a melody from a symphony by Strauss,
You're a Bendel bonnet, a Shakespeare sonnet,
You're Mickey Mouse.
You're the Nile, You're the Tow'r of Pisa,
You're the smile on the Mona Lisa.
I'm a worthless check, a total wreck, a flop,
But if, Baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top[!

(verse 2)
Your words poetic are not pathetic
On the other hand, boy, you shine
And I can feel after every line
A thrill divine down my spine.
Now gifted humans like Vincent Youmans
Might think that your song is bad,
But for a person who's just rehearsin'
Well I gotta say this my lad:

(chorus 2)
You're the top! You're Mahatma Ghandi.
You're the top! You're Napolean brandy.
You're the purple light of a summer night in Spain,
You're the National Gall'ry, You're Garbo's sal'ry,
You're cellophane.
You're sublime, You're a turkey dinner.
You're the time of the Derby winner.
I'm a toy balloon that is fated soon to pop.
But if, Baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!

(chorus 3)
You're the top! You're a Ritz hot toddy.
You're the top! You're a Brewster body.
You're the boats that glide on the sleepy Zuider Zee,
You're a Nathan Panning, You're Bishop Manning,
You're broccoli.
You're a prize, You're a night at Coney,
You're the eyes of Irene Bordoni,
I'm a broken doll, a fol-de-rol, a blop,
But if, Baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top.

(chorus 4)
You're the top! You're an Arrow collar.
You're the top! You're a Coolidge dollar.
You're the nimble tread of the feet of Fred Astaire,
You're an O'Neill drama, You're Whistler's mama,
You're Camembert.
You're a rose, You're Inferno's Dante,
You're the nose of the great Durante.
I'm just in the way, as the French would say "De trop,"
But if, Baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top.

(chorus 5)
You're the top! You're a Waldorf salad.
You're the top! You're a Berlin ballad.
You're a baby grand of a lady and a gent.
You're an old dutch master, You're Mrs. Aster,
You're Pepsodent.
You're romance, You're the steppes of Russia,
You're the pants on a Roxy usher.
I'm a lazy lout that's just about to stop,
But if Baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!

(chorus 6)
You're the top! You're a dance in Bali.
You're the top! You're a hot tamale.
You're an angel, you simply too, too, too diveen,
You're a Botticelli, You're Keats, You're Shelley,
You're Ovaltine.
You're a boon, You're the dam at Boulder,
You're the moon over Mae West's shoulder.
I'm a nominee of the G.O.P. or GOP,
But if, Baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!

(chorus 7)
You're the top! You're the Tower of Babel.
You're the top! You're the Whitney Stable.
By the River Rhine, You're a sturdy stein of beer,
You're a dress from Saks's, You're next year's taxes,'
You're stratosphere.
You're my thoist, You're a Drumstick Lipstick,
You're da foist in da Irish svipstick,
I'm a frightened frog that can find no log to hop,
But if, Baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!

No one to talk with,
All by myself,
No one to walk with,
But I'm happy on the shelf
Ain't misbehavin',
I'm savin' my love for you

I know for certain,
The one I love,
I through with flirtin',
It's just you I'm thinkin' of.
Ain't misbehavin',
I'm savin' my love for you
Like Jack Horner in the corner
Don't go no where,
What do I care,
Your kisses are worth waitin' for
Be-lieve me
I don't stay out late,
Don't care to go,
I'm home about eight,
Just me and my radio
Ain't misbehavin',
I'm savin' my love for

I particulary like, "you're kisses are worth waitin' for, believe me"

Great choices, Rosie & All!
Mine: (a sure cure for a binge of too much cynical whiney indie rock lol)

MP3: "Sunny Side of the Street" - Tommy Dorsey (there IS a vocal in there, at the very end)

Grab your coat, Don't forget your hat
But leave your worries, leave them on the doorstep,
Life's sweet... just direct your feet,
To the sunny, sunny side of the street

Hop-bop-a-doodle-zat, pitter-pat
You know that happy tune is my step,
Life's all-reet, if you dig that beat
On the sunny, sunny side of the street

Used to walk in the shade, with my blues on parade
What a drag old man, gettin' stuck in the shade
Get hip: Don't be afraid
Move it on over, feel yourself in the clover

If I never have a cent, I'll be rich as Rockefeller
Gold dust 'round my feet, on the sunny side of the street

I have a, of all things, Readers Digest compilation of 40's tunes. While I have a fair collection of popular swing tunes, it was one my mother purchased, as a double-CD of popular songs of the era. I enjoy most of them, and don't know why I haven't picked up more such collections.
One of my favorites is a version of "It's Only a Paper Moon" (1932 orig.)

I never feel a thing is real
When I'm away from you
Out of your embrace
The world's a temporary parking place

Mmm, mm, mm, mm
A bubble for a minute
Mmm, mm, mm, mm
You smile, the bubble has a rainbow in it

Say, it's only a paper moon
Sailing over a cardboard sea
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me

Yes, it's only a canvas sky
Hanging over a muslin tree
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me

Without your love
It's a honky-tonk parade
Without your love
It's a melody played in a penny arcade

It's a Barnum and Bailey world
Just as phoney as it can be
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me

I also tend to like novelty type songs. Another from the collection is "Feudin' and fussin' and a-fightin'", and I was surprised, when searching for the lyrics, to find that Bing Crosby did a famous version - as I've never heard it! I think the version I'm used it is by Dorothy Shay, but I'd have to check.

Beyond the busy highway
Beyond the city strife
We highly treasure
and take great pleasure
In our plain way of life

Feudin' a-fussin' and a-fightin,'
Sometimes it gets to be excitin,'
Don't like them ornery neighbors down by the creek,
We'll be plumb out of neighbors next week.

Grandma, poor ol' grandma,
Why'd they have to shoot poor grandma.
She lies 'neath the clover
Someone caught her bendin' over
Pickin' up a daisy!
Feudin' a-fussin' and a-fightin'
This is a wrong that needs a rightin,'
Let's get that funeral service over, so then
We'll go feudin' and fightin' again.

Fightin' a-feudin' and a-fussin,'
That's all that's goin' on with us'n.
We are such neighborly people peaceful and sweet,
All except when we happen to meet.

Daughter, baby daughter,
Poisoned all the neighbors chickens.
Daughter shouldn't oughter
Least 'till she could run like the dickens.
They hit her with a shovel!
Feudin' a-fightin' and a-fussin'
No use a-standin' here a-cussin,'
Let's give our daughter a pistol now that she's four
And go feudin' and fightin' some more.

Fightin' a-fussin' and a-feudin,'
Why did that sheriff keep intrudin'
He was a curious critter, yup he was swell
It's a shame he was pushed down the well
Water, the well water
the dog-gone stuff don't taste like it oughter
Look here city slickers
That's why we all drink corn liquor
It's better with the shoes off
Feudin' a-fussin' and a-fightin,'
This ain't no corner you can brighten
Polish the shootin' iron while I'm gettin' a yen
To go feudin' and a-fussin' a-feudin' and a-fussin' again
