Second,
however, except for the ribbons, U.S. of A. uniforms are awfully drab.
A pair of aviator shades might have given things a bit more pizzaz and kept your fellow from squinting in that SoCal sunshine.

We actually said something about that. My spare sunglasses are aviators (1940s reproductions) and I told hm he should have asked for them, especially being an aviator. And it is actually central California not south we are having what they call a "heat" (75 maybe 80 degrees)wave here. And yea I agree that uniform is a terrible color, but their dress uniforms all of them are lovely.

My preferred sort of winter weather where you are.
Instead of which, what we have, this weekend, where I am is:
High - 20 degrees F, Low - 9 degrees F, Wind - 25 mph

Ah, well, that's why I was so clever to purchase this last month.

Bleak winter morning in Visby, Gotland, Sweden...

What I normally wear in dry weather out here during our quite UK-like winters:
- brown Red Wing Iron rangers (with woollen socks)
- tan corduroy largeot à tirants by Le Laboureur (lined, light brown Nigel Cabourn tweed trousers in temperatures below -5 C/23 F)
- Woollen-lined Hestra leather gloves
- light blue dead-stock l-s henley (not visible)
- mid-blue Nigel Cabourn lapel waistcoat
- tartan woollen scarf
- Jamieson's shawl-neck Fair-isle cardigan
- Retro Sport/Mamie Blue woollen cap

Thanks. It's a Ralph Lauren from a couple of years back. I love that they kept the '30s proportions of the design intact- these just don't look right unless they're cut short in the body.

Very nice look. I particularly like the Jamieson's Fair Isle.

Thank you! I bought it as a reward of-sorts after successfully defending my PhD two years ago.

While I'm at it: Here's a more wintry version of myself. We had some snow last night and the temperature dropped. - Same cap, scarf and waistcoat but with the aforementioned Nigel Cabourn tweed trousers, Lundhags boots (Swedish heritage brand, production sadly sold out and moved to Portugal some years ago) and my most treasured leather jacket, originally worn by my grandmothers uncle back in the 1930's (a collarless Swedish sub-type often called 'bryggarfrack' - 'brewers tails').
