On the subject, this is an outfit I assembled tonight in anticipation of summer. This is probably my most authentic 1920s-inspired uniform. Tall collar, three-piece, boater and some glorious purple.

It always seemed to me that the men in old adverts were wearing such similar suits that they seemed like a 'young gentleman's uniform'! Typically boater, skinny suit and some wild shirt/tie combinations. That is what I tried to emulate

I've found that neckerchiefs and scarves are highly addictive: once you start wearing them you don't feel fully dressed without them. Hats have the same effect for me.

Bob, I agree. There is such a stigma on hats nowadays - the ridiculous fedora meme.
And yet apart from the look, it is a practical piece of gear- Once it becomes a habit, it is rarely not hat/cap weather. You want protection from the sun, cold and rain.
