Did that when we first went there together, for my birthday last August. The Tonga Room is a good experience to do once, but later in the evening it got too crowded- too many people with too much liquor in 'em on the dance floor! We ended going back upstairs to dance where the pianist was playing. Ah, quieter, a very opulent setting, and more romantic. Much more our kind of scene (we're social ballroom dancers).

The Fairmont Hotel is a beautiful place. Did you two run over to the Tonga Room?

I could almost cry, when I saw how these pictures came out!!

My 16-1/2yo ds Daniel Charles Linsley,
wearing his vintage late 1930s white tie and tails ensemble for the first time,
to a prom in San Jose, CA this evening:

I know a number of gents here post closeup detail pics of their outfits.
With my iPhone4 I was amazed to be able to get very high quality shots.

For seeing the closeup pictures of my son's white tie and tails -
I invite you to please check them out on the Formal Wear Primer thread,
here http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?6761-Formal-Wear-Primer

Wonderful pictures, CC. It's good to see you posting again. Are you going to the Preservation Ball this year??

Thank you Bugsy. Not going to the Preservation Ball, but my beau Tom and I are going to the Avalon Ball on Catalina Island in May.

We have been to a couple of the Gaskell Balls in Oakland, with and without my teenagers. We're all going next Saturday (April 27). Daniel and Tom wearing their vintage formalwear will positively slay the women there:)

For the first time in several years, I will not be at the Preservation Ball either. I shall be in London; rough duty, I know, but someone has to do it. On the plus side, I'm invited to several events in the UK while I'm there. Perhaps I'll see you either on the Queen Mary or at the next Gatsby. Be well, and do tell Daniel for me that he looked absolutely elegant for his prom.

Thank to ALL the gents that have made positive and very encouraging comments regarding the pics I posted of my teenage son in his vintage white tie and tails. I have relayed the comments to Daniel.

Thanks :) I rarely have much time to post on here these days but I regularly take a look at this thread and the suits room - your well combined outfits have not been lost on me!

Cheers. I hope you've got lots of recently purchased vintage clothing that you've been saving up to show us.

The weather has turned rather nice today, so I didn't have to wear a waistcoat for the first time since about September.

That made it a perfect opportunity put on a blazer and one of my favoured suede ties.
