An outfit that I didn't think would work but am very happy with.

Dark red 40's suit, chocolate brown bow hat, corde bag and brown leather 40's shoes, pink reverse carved lucite earrings and brooch, two cats and a grubby mirror.

I really need a cleaner and a dashing escort to take me photos!

Mr Badger: Looking good. Both of you. Funny thing you wear an item that I try to find since I have seen screenshoits of boardwalk empire. That brown sweater vest /cardigan. I gotta have something like this too. With the winter I am developing a knit addiction.

Thanks for the kind words, chap. We've been watching Boardwalk Empire, too, it's really quite excellent, especially Buscemi, MacDonald and the English fella who plays Capone.

The knit waistcoat is actually Ralph Lauren, all-wool, and cost the princely sum of £18 (including postage from US to UK) from E**y. There is a lot of quite nice RL stuff on there, but it's usually quite expensive. Occasionally, though, it's a good price - I've also got RL brown/white saddle shoes and a pair of quite good 'GI' khakis.

You can see a little more of the waistcoat in this shot:

I really like the shirt I've got on, which is from another unlikely company: Boden. It's a half-button front 'Aertex' shirt with a soft collar, a very nicely detailed front placket, double-button cuffs and side gussets. It's very redolent of the British WW2 'tropical' shirt, albeit in pale blue. I happened upon it on E**y for £5 - I had no idea that Boden, quite a yuppie-ish brand, would make such a shirt! Needless to say, there's no sign of it on their website... my khakis are Docker K1's from around six years back, the boots 1950s-60s Acmes, the hat a Jaxon 'Big Apple' and the jacket my flakey late-1940s (ish) Militus...

LordBest sister, Smuterella, NickD and Mrs, Mr Badger and Mrs, great display in a variety of styles! :eusa_clap

(BTW, Nick, I know what you are meaning about being the only one dressed up in an event. About a week ago I attended a "new book" presentation; I wore a DB, bow tie, pocket square, and hat. The next most dressy outfit was a sports jacket, no tie. Even the writer, who is an acquitance of mine, wore a hooded sweater. He brought with him a TV presenter, who was in charge of the preliminary introduction; this man actually remarked on me, and when the writer mentioned he knew me, he actually wanted to be introduced to yours truly. He complimented me on my style and elegance, and said how rare has it become to find people who dress up willingly... :p - this comment is not to be intended as me censoring wnat other people choose to do, I am just saying this is the way it is now)

Everyone looks fabulous. Today I haven't left the house... currently wearing Carhartt jeans, a black and pink strped sweater, and a West German military beret, black, with an added hammer and sickle red star. Keeping my little bald head warm around the house!

I was going for a 40s look.
Sorry about the bad pics, but my husband wasn't available to take them at the time.

Lady, you look fantastic!
