Not today, but a week ago at the Goodwood Revival, together with my wife.... I had already posted a photo of my two older (no idea how old really) suits here http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showpost.php?p=847869&postcount=3558 when I didn't fit into them yet. In the meantime the tailor had changed them a bit, just in time for our trip to the UK:

Never wore a hat before but got so used to it during these three days that I actually forgot to take it off when sitting in the car ;) .

Wow, what gorgeous fabric and details- thanks for sharing these closeup pics too. Outside outside suspender buttons and a fishtail back...sigh.

Hi Mike. It's dated early 1940 on one of the pockets. No maker's tag though. Pants are fishtailed. No vent to jacket. Four button sleeve cuffs all working.

Paddy, it's a lovely suit but after reading other peoples' positive comments,
I feel a little confused and now compelled to disagree.
Sorry.
It looks like that jacket has a few problems- as if it's for a thinner, maybe taller guy- sleeves are very long on you and the jacket is bunching and straining at the back in the shoulders and waist- looks like it's at just about maximum stretch across the back of your shoulders. It also looks like the collar/neck is too small for you.

The trousers would not be a problem to correct- a surplus of length and ample width allows a good range of down-sizing alterations. Trousers can be trickier than you would think. Jackets and making them bigger, that's another story.

It also looks like there's a hole in the back of the left sleeve, at the shoulder.

But after saying this, I am just looking at photos.
Does any of this ring true with you?

When you have it altered have them SAVE the leftover pants length material and the sleeve amount leftover too. If that is indeed a hole on the left shoulder area, its worth having a reliable cleaners reweave it for you... I had a vintage jacket that was a bit tight in the armhole and every time I put it on I was tearing out the underarm, and the underarm lining. I took the jacket to my vintage drycleaners, and they pulled some extra material from the very deep pockets and they gusseted the jacket under the armhole and also repaired/restored the place it was tearing in the lining material.

If vintage garments are a tad snug they can be altered just enough to give a better fit without impacting the integrity of the garment. I have a vintage 40s black crepe cocktail dress on a layaway that the wrist length sleeves are too long. I'll be having the vintage store owner (who is also a third generation seamstress) shorten the sleeves for me and use the leftover original material to gusset the underarms to give me a bit more movement ease.

Panache thank you.... I did make some waves at the party. Most of the ladies were wearing little black dresses (and looked lovely I might add), but bright green on a red head that is 5 foot 9 is a bit noticable. But a few people thought I had been in a play and came straight there. It was fun.

Thanks Sproily,

indeed, it is a doctor's bag... not vintage, I bought it new but it has now several traces from the trip so that it looks like I found it in the attic ;)

I used this bag to carry my camera equipment as it looks much better than a modern photo bagpack... even though it is very heavy this way.

:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap Paddy, where ARE you at in this shot, I love the Bing Crosby posters. Do tell us!

I've seen many pics of you Sir on here, since I joined in March- and I must say this especially is a GREAT one!

You truly look like the Golden Era "real deal" in this whole ensemble; besides the great tie, the vest (I'm assuming its part of a three piece suit?), the leather suspenders peeking out from under your vest, and wonderful hat too-just WOW.

Everything about this photograph is "spot on" as they say- the setting, the lighting for the photograph, no cluttered and busy background, no modern dressed people in the shot, all perfect -even down to the details of the sleeves of your shirt being rolled up... sigh!

Oh, what brand and style is the hat and who is the hatter/mfg. please.

Bings!!

This was my 'first' trip to the USA and I was staying in a little town called Walnut Creek which is about a 20 minute train ride from San Francisco. My pal Kevin was kind enough to take me to this delightful little bar/restaurant called, "Bings," which has lots of tribute items to the late Bing Crosby. We then made our way to the most fabulous Italian restaurant (both in hats...of course!).

The hat is a beaver felt hat created by Marc (from Germany) who jointly produced the hats (with Steve Delk) for that latest Indiana Jone's movie. This hat was created to look like one that the late Howard Hughes had. It is beautiful, has been subjected to the heat of LA and the winter of Maine and come back laughing!! A new hat made of olde world materials and craftsmanship!

And 'well done' Miss Sherlock...;) It's a 3 piece early 40's suit which served me well as I trudged around the west coast and then later the east coast of USA.

Sorry Feraud, I deleted it at first because it was telling me the photo didn't come through. So here it is again...

I'm kickin' around a few ideas. I'm being interviewed by a newspaper about my tie collection tomorrow.
