Atlas Shrugged, tropic of capricorn

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand-- her 1180pgmagnum opus It's steeped in controversy and I am aware she has equal measures of admirers and detractors, but it's been a good read thus far. I have about 130 pgs to go-- word has it a screenplay is in the works based on the book, starring er...Bradjelina. Yep, both of 'em minus the kid collection.
180 degree turn after finishing TROPIC OF CAPRICORN by Henry Miller, which was, sorry Millerites, a bit of a struggle to finish but I'm glad I did, the "ending" sums up the rambling quite effectively.

Speaking of which, or whom-- CRAIG ROBERTSON, your profile pic looks strikingly similar to the likeness of Henry Miller! I'm sure you've heard that eh?

Summer of the Dragon, Elizabeth Peters
-A steal from my local library at 50 cents. My neighbor owns all of these and I'm terrified that she'll move away and I'll never be able to read them again. They are the perfect balance of mystery, fluff and randomness.

Survivor, Chuck Palahniuk
-This was the only book in my bag while I was at the doctor's this morning, so I gave it a shot, even though I'd been saving it for when I return to university. Damn you, Chuck! You sucked me back in and I've read half the book now!

Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife, Linda Berdoll
-A few days ago, in an effort to weed out my substantial used paperback collection, I picked up Wuthering Heights. I thought that maybe I'd grown into British post Napoleanic romance-y novels since the last time I tried them. I thought wrong. So I chose this instead. This is the ultimate porny sequel to Pride and Prejudice, and I recommend it highly (not just for the porn) but because it peels back the layers behind two of the most arguably famous characters in Western Lit. I actually read this instead of reading the assigned stuff from Pride and Prejudice in high school (I'm such a rebel).

Reasons I Prefer MDTaW to the Original:
A. Porn-y
B. Characters make mistakes (even the good ones!!)
C. Intriguing sub-plots (including a paternity mystery)
D. Exploration of reality vs 'true love'
E. Engaging use of language (for me, reading Austen is like trying to swim through a brick wall)

So I realize that my declaration of loathing for Pride and Prejudice may instigate some....unhappiness. Sorry in advance. Anyway, that's what I'm reading this week.

I finished 'Catch-22' by Joseph Heller, the ending caught me off guard, I'm debating whether or not to read 'The Great Gatsby', though I'm leaning towards no.

an hour or two??? seriously. I've always assumed it was a full-length novel.

Gatsby is more novella than novel, and Fitzgerald is a far cry
from, say, Dostoevsky or Melville in approach.

Tender is the Night is a bit longer than Gatsby, a two or three
hour ride. ;)

The Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton. The film version is absolutely wonderful, havn't seen the new miniseries yet.

I'm about to read my early .PDF version of "Billibub Baddings and the Case of the Pitchers Pendant" by Tee Morris. It goes on sale at amazon on the 8th. If you're familiar with the work of Tee Morris or you just want to read a free .PDF book before it comes out go to My Blog to pick up a copy.

Don't worry it's not piracy, Tee gave the download link for my blog and asked me to tell people about it.

An American Tragedy by Theodore Dreiser for the 15th time, there is just something about the passion of this novel that really gets me. Every time I read the part were Clyde kills Roberta my heart leaps and I loose my breath. It is amazing how Dreiser worded such a moment of passion from both perspectives and juxtaposed it all at the same time. Stellar! To me this is what writing is all about , it really draws me in and I am one with the story. Up next is Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man , another multi -re read, but a must have for personal reasons that I will not disclose .

Picked up a copy of "Round up the usual suspects, the making of Casablanca-Bogart, Bergman, and World War II" by Aljena Harmetz. I found it at the local flea market today. Just starting it. Anybody read it yet?

Finally getting around to The Agony and the Ecstasy by Irving Stone. It's been on my reading stack for a while, but so far it's worth the wait.
