Starting off with Leo Reisman and his Orchestra in 1933 with Howard Phillips on the vocal for "Love Songs Of The Nile." If Cecil B. DeMille ever did arrangements for a dance band, they would sound exactly like this record.

Next up, following a commercial for St. Joseph's Aspirin -- just fifteen cents -- it's ahead to 1934 with Glen Gray and his Casa Loma Orchestra, with Pee Wee Hunt squinting and grinning his way thru "Lookie Lookie Here Comes Cookie." I hope she's brought the Benadryl.

This stuff is on. What are your recommended Bobby Valentin albums?

Let me think about it. The thing about "Latin Boogaloo" is that it was very faddish. Many established Latin bands in the late 60’s did them because they were so popular. They were competing with young bands (many of which couldn’t play very well), for the younger audience.

Latin Boogaloo (or Boogalu) was very hot and cold. Some of the tunes/arrangements were super hot, and some were just awful (really, really bad). I think I’ll do a post on super hot Latin Boogaloo cuts, maybe next week.

I’ll also get back to you about Bobby. Bobby started off as a trumpet man and then moved over to bass. Both of those cuts were off records where he played trumpet. The same record (Young Man With A Horn) that had Batman’s Bugaloo, also had a cover of Horace Silver’s “Song For My Father”. Unfortunately I think that the record/cd is currently out of print. I’ll have to look, see what’s currently available, and get back to you with recommendations.

Bobby’s late 60’s period (which included some Boogaloo) was preceded by straight-ahead Latin, and succeeded with Salsa. The common string that ran through his work was a strong jazz influence and excellence.

I’ll try to have a recommendation by the end of the day. Cheers
